On-Line Checkin

OK, so I've done online checkin three times in the last month. I have yet to have any problems. So far each time our room has been ready when we've arrived. Even on Sunday we left BWV around 11am & by 12:45pm we were already in our room at Saratoga. We actually had our pick of which area & floors we wanted. My friends son arrived yesterday & I told her to make sure he did the online checkin. He is at OKW & his room was available at 10am. Just wanted to add my two cents of info.

Quick... buy a lotto ticket.

We used it for 2 out of 3 check-ins last month and both times we had problems and won't use it again. OKW didn't know why we were standing at the on-line check in sign and when we finally got help, they didn't know what to do. Our room was ready at 4:00.

SSR was better but they didn't have a record of our requests. We asked for CP and they had us at TS. I asked a Manager about it and we were told that On-Line Check In has a lot of problems. At 4:30 our room was ready and guess what... we got CP after all.

I don't see the time savings or benefit.

I don't know much about this online check in yet. So here's my question: Do you have to be a DVC member to use the online check in service? or are you using your reservation # to check in?
My husband hates split stays because of the fact that we can't check into the next place until late in the afternoon, but this might change everything!

We did the online check in for our past March trip. However, I was surprised when my keys were not already printed out and ready as was told. I did check in after 4pm and when I got to the counter they had to put the folder together for me. It did have my name on it, but that's about it. Now I think that maybe I would not have gotten the bad view if I had just gone in and checked in at the counter. It didn't take me much less time. I think it shaved off about a minute or two where they didn't have to put in my credit card number. And there was no one at the line for regular check in. I suppose if I am checking in during a busy time (which I don't really know when that is), it would be helpful to check in early, otherwise, I didn't see the point in my case.

You can only do online checking once u are within 10 days of ur arrival. On DVCmember.com go to view "your vacation plans" & they'll be a link there to do the checkin.

As far as lousy rooms, 2 of the 3 times I was given a 1 bdrm in the Springs @ SSR. (I don't request a certain area) At BWV last week we had a crummy room. (again a 1 brdm) We had a standard view which consisted of the pond & the waterway to DHS, The view was actually nice, but the walk OMG was sooooo long from the elevator. We thought we were in the never ending hall

For online checkin there is a small sign on the counter. We were told that the new hanging signs should be installed in a few weeks.

CS did have our folder & keys already for us upon each arrival. The longest thing was actually the CS writting my name on the "Happy B-day" pin @ BWV's last Friday....lol. All in all personally I think it's hit or miss with the online checkin.

Do you mean that you were able to indicate something online, or that when you arrived, you told them your preferences, and got them?

I'm not sure yet on this option. We have preferences to be near other family members and not sure if they will even be reviewed if we do online, esp. since you can't add that there are preferences on your original. I've heard good and bad on this process. I think if we were traveling alone I might try, but not sure about my May trip.

I didn't request any certain area. The CS said we have the paddock, grandstand & carousel. Floors such and such are available. We choose to stay in the carousel since this is a bldg we've never stayed in b 4. Apparently, there was alot of rooms & bldg's to choose from which surprised us.
