I always thought they were sprinkles. My friends in Philly call them Jimmies. They also tried to convince me that a hoagie is a totally different thing than a sub, so who knows...

I grew up in Rhode Island and call them "jimmies." Of course, I also call those sub things "grinders."

;)

I grew up in Maryland. Everyone in my area called them "sprinkles". Even the soft-serve ice cream truck that came around at the beach listed them as "sprinkles." I was aware, later in life, that some people used the term "Jimmies" but I never actually have heard anyone around me use that term.

:rotfl: Well, I was about to post that maybe it was a regional thing, but you blew that theory out of the water. I have lived my entire life in Maryland and have always called them jimmies. :goodvibes

grinders go in the oven, hoagies are cold, not sure about subs, I thought those could go either way.

I always call the sprinkles.
When we lived in RI and I worked at an ice cream resturant (Newport Creamery) we called them jimmies.

All the moving I have done in my life as a military brat & now military wife I have called: sandwiches - subs, hoagies & grinders; water fountain/bubbler; soda, pop, coke; milkshake/frappe.

I call them sprinkles but my husband calls them jimmies. Now its not like we grew up far from each other, only like 4or 5 towns. I have gotten the kids to call them sprinkles.

Sprinkles, although I love the chocolate crunchies from Carvel the best. :love:

there are both

sprinkle are the little tiny round hard thingees
jimmies are the larger elongated softer thingees

Got it?? ;)

And I prefer chocolate chips on my ice cream :rotfl:

They are jimmies. Either plain jimmies, or rainbow jimmies.

Hmmmmm....maybe it has to do with where in MD you live....

When I was little I lived in DC...we didn't have either, we had the Good Humor man and you took whatever ice cream type thing he pushed out of the bars of his window. Then my mom moved just over the line in MD and we had sprinkles. When I was in Pittsburgh, they were Jimmies. I call them sprinkles.

Sprinkles. I'd never heard the term "jimmies" until the DIS. I think after the first time I heard the term used here I saw something on food network where they called them jimmies.

I grew up in SE MA and they were jimmies. We had grinders and elastics (not rubber bands)

We have always called them Jimmies where I live in Massachusetts. I used to work at Friendly's and that what they were always called too!:thumbsup2

I live near St. Louis, and it's "sprinkles" around here. And Soda (not "pop" or "coke"). ;)

I've lived in NJ, CT and MA for many years and this is what they were called in each state:

NJ = Sprinkles
CT = Shots
MA = Jimmies
