We just got off the Wonder and the Podcast cruise was a fairly hot topic amoung the food and beverage gang... They know we are a part of this whacky crowd and we had some thoght provoking conversations around tastings (Congac, Tequila, Martini, Wine, etc.)
We spoke with Aras (Bevergae Officer) one evening and realizied that we may have some logistical problems for the gang...
Lori and I attended a Tequila tasting this cruise (Damien put it on and did a great job) it was educational and fun. They had it in Caddillacs around 5PM on sea day. There were about 18 folks there, might have been able to acomodate another 30 people...
We walked by the Martini Tasting and they had about 24 people upstairs same day...
If you assume that the ship will always get it's fair share of non-DIS folks who want to participate I think it is unlikely that all of the drinking DIS'ers will get to particpate as there are some size (and staff) limitations..
There is really only one venue that will accomodate a big crowd and has the sound system and video connections to do a large scale tasting of say 100+ people (Studio Sea)... as you know the art folks and the DVC folks have that scheduled the majority of the time...
However, the site is available a few hours on a couple of days.
I thought someone was trying to schedule a private tasting (George?) that would be seperate from DIS and Dreams (they have assumed enough liability and inconveinence on this trip I am sure... and we all thank them)
We spoke with Customer Service onboard and they had some good ideas but had to defer to the land based operation (never a good sign)...
So I am thinking that we would be willing to pursue such an event (provided that no else is already moving down that road). The insurance cost is minimal and all we would have to do is gaurantee a certin number of participants...
I think it would be fun to "do it together" but failing that approach the Wonder will try and accomodate us in smaller groups by offering the public tastings as sales (and staff permit).
The other variable is that we will have a lot of realitrively new people during the podcast cruise in terms of food and beverage folks. So experienced staff (in terms of tastings) may be the limiting factor.
Just looking for some feedback and certainly do not want to step on anyone else efforts...
We will be back on the Wonder in 11/7 so will have more opportunity to follow up soon...
