We were just told by the Vacation Planning Desk on our last cruise that you can turn On Board Credit (we had got extra due to air conditioning issues) into Disney Gift Cards and can use those to book your next cruise. Of course they told us this AFTER we had already spent our on board credit, but thought it might be a good tip for others.

Interesting. I'd never heard that before. But it's probably a non-issue for me, because I can't imagine spending less than the OBC.

Does this include OBC from DCL via onboard booking? I have always thought that's use or lose.

You simply go and buy a gift card in the gift shop for however much of the OBC you don't want to use. A gift card would be charged to your room anyway, and the OBC is used before anything goes on your credit card.

The only catch (in a way) is it's a Disney Gift Card and only can be used for Disney stuff, so you can't cash it in (and no, you can't buy something with it for less than the amount and get change in cash).

If you applied a bunch of Disney Gift cards to your on-board account and have $$ft over at the end of the cruise, Buying a gift card in the amount that covers the entire credit balance on your account is a good way to have the credit applied to just ONE gift card, instead of many (assuming you applied a bunch of smaller ones to your account)

Well, we had $500 OBC and had already prepaid our gratuity, there were no excursions that we wanted to do (not to mention we didn't get the credit until after our last port day), the merchandise was rather lacking on this last cruise, so we actually struggled to spend it all...LOL

Still better than loosing the money completely since OBC is often "free money" so to speak.
