On a dare would you...

I grew up eating cow's tongue..not by choice..my family didn't have alot of money. My mom would cook the tongue in a pressure cooker. My dad would always slice of the end and give it to me (the youngest) and tell me it was the most tender part......

because the cow always had it up his nose :teeth:

It wasn't my favorite thing, but it beat lima beans IMHO!

I most likely wouldnt. If it can taste me back, its out.

I used to but not by choice. When we were kids my mom and grandma every once in a while would buy a cow's tongue. We would see it come home from the grocery store and we would keep an eye on it and make sure that it was still in the fridge when we got home everyday. We made sure whatever meat we ate wasnt the tongue. Then it would disappear. So, just when we thought it was safe to eat the meat and not worry about it being tongue. There would be a chunky cut meat with red chili and homemade fresh tortillas waiting for us after school and we would gobble it up. Not knowing at the time that it was the tongue that had so mysteriously disapeared a few days before.

Yeah sure, I'd try it. For those of you who have eaten it in the past, how is it cooked?

Yes I have eaten it and pig's tongue also. It is a very lean muscle meat and quite tasty. We had it served over noodles with a nice mushroom gravy.

Liver is also a favorite of ours. Our kids will actually stand in front of the butcher's meat case and request it. It is delicious with bacon and nicely sauteed onions. :thumbsup2

Ate it often as a child and remember it being very VERY good. Sorry, not what you want to hear I'm sure. It was a favorite of mine. I specifically remember reaching a point in my consciousness where I looked at it one time and actually SAW what it was and then....that was the end of that. Haven't had it since.

I do still eat the chicken or turkey hearts and gizzards. Now I do it just to gross out my boys and DH. Wimps!

I assume we are talking cooked, right. If not, then "No way, Jose."

My mom made it once when we were little. It was okay, I guess. I don't really remember since it was only once. I agree that I will take tongue over liver anyday!

When I was a kid, our next door neighbor had this on occasion. I saw it sitting on the countertop. That was enough for me. That thing was huge. No way was it going in my mouth, in any fashion.

I used to swallow lima beans and peas whole (you have to ration your milk, though!). I'm not sure that I've ever had them as an adult.....

In the UK it is usually boiled and then sliced or cubed when cold. It is normally found in the deli next to the sliced ham, turkey etc either prepacked or formed into a block like chorizo.

Yes I have. It is very tender. It is a common taco stuffing in Mexico. I dont eat beef anymore so i dont eat it now. DH who is southern-white has had it but i have not told him what it is... i hope he is not reading this. (He really really likes it!)
