OMG- Zhu Zhu Pets are they the new Cabbage Patch Kids????

There is a reason -- from my experiences with my local Target, whenever anyone calls the store, you're going to have a 90% liklihood that the person on the other end is going to be clueless.

That is because the telephone operator is also the same person stationed at the dressing rooms. In other words, if you ask them a question about the latest fashion styles, you might get the answser you need -- as for anything else left in the store, you're left guessing...

As for shelf space, Target does have a (very small) section for these hamsters. While the aisle location may vary depending upon store design/build, you will always find them positioned between "Polly Pocket" and "Hello Kitty" in the Toys department.

My advice is to try other retailers, as Target was among the last of the big ones to get on board.

Thanks. I did actually go to Target today just to double check, but nothing. Another worker in the dept told me to look by the Littlest Pet Shop Stuff. Later in the week I'll also check by the Hello Kitty. Thanks again!

Even the very name of this product (Zhu Zhu) is Chinese...

Yup! Zhu zhu means go go in Chinese. Guess with the romanization of the words it was better to say it with the z sound than literally with the ch sound. Okay, too much info. Better go back to cleaning...

Hi, first time posting here.. the segment on the Zhu Zhu's was interesting, but I'm not sure about the 4 million hamsters making a dent. The population of the US alone is 300 million ppl. Hopefully everyone is not looking for one!:sad2:
So I have a question, I was fortunate enough to get one yesterday at Toys R US, opened it, and IT DOESN'T WORK:mad:
I tried replacing the batteries, and nothing, it made a wierd beep sound, and now doesn't work at all. What should I do???:scared:

Hi welcome!!! I, personally, would hang on to it. Keep the receipt and try to call them about an exchange. Talk to the manager, maybe they can hold one for you (extenuating circumstances) and you can take it in for an exchange.... Bummer :headache:

Are you 100% sure about that?? Or maybe not fully-awake, perhaps??

As charming as your Nightline story sounds, Zhu Zhu's are imported by Cepia, LLC, a St. Louis-based marketing firm (with their HQ in the county near Lambert International Airport) that has tried many different things (this year, their emphasis was on toys). And, Zhu Zhu's are most definitely not made in the USA, but rather, you guessed it -- China.

Even the very name of this product (Zhu Zhu) is Chinese...

Huh--I just rewatched the Nightline story from the pp's link and it says this guy is the creator and he and his 15 employees do everything from "design to marketing" including the voices etc. I guess they farm the manufacturing out to China?

And yes, I didn't think 4-5 million would make a dent either, but at least its something.;)

did anyone else a notification re the shipment of the 99 dollar set that some of us ordered or did anyones ship? it was showing shipping of 11/23, just got notice of unexpected delay stating it will ship as soon as it becomes available.

I got this notification also. I am hoping it ships soon but considering there is still over 4 weeks until Christmas I am okay with it right now.

Thanks April.=, I'll try that. I also ordered a set back in October, and I didn't get an email about the backorder, but when I look at my order status, it says "Special Order Awaiting Inventory" Maybe the boat from China is late :rotfl::confused3

I gotthis email too. I just hope it ships in time for Christmas!

I got the email, too. I was glad I got some kind of communication from them because I was really afraid the order would be canceled. That's why I keep sending my DH to Target every morning to look for hamsters and accessories. If the order doesn't go through, I'll have back up (and if the set does arrive, I'll give the extras to friends).

i suppose it is better than a cancellation!
i did, however, miss out on the rewards perk of being able to buy one at 6 am the other morning! i didnt get the email and when i read the boards later and saw that it had happened and i didnt get an email i had them check my reward card and it was issued to someone completely different in a different state!:scared1: So, not only did I not get my zhu zhu, but all the points i have accumlated have gone to someone else! i did get a new card that day, however.

Grrr, I got the backorder notice too for the giant hamster city set.
There's a rumor on another zhu zhu board that TRU screwed up and the cities were available for way too long and that they didn't cancel everyone immediately because of the fear of the backlash. The speculation is that after this we will get a notice that our orders have been cancelled :sad2:

I hope that's not true because I have been counting on this set actually coming! I will be so upset if they cancel it :sad1:

I preordered one of those cities back in August when you could preordered them... and in late Oct/Early Nov I got an e-mail that that part of my order was canceled. I have to admit I was kind of peeved when I saw them offering them again for the $99 preorder price. Why cancel my order just a couple weeks prior to that if you were going to do that? Anyway - I got the 3-pack of hamsters and I found a couple of the fun house parts that the kids could link together so I didn't even bother with the $99 city... good luck to those that ordered it, hope you eventually get it!

There is a chance that the orders will be cancelled if the manufacturer doesn't come through. The fact that they don't have them in stock for the preorder scares me. The earlier you ordered it, the better chance you have at getting it. If they cancel the orders again though, i dunno. They did it to ppl who ordered it in August, they could do it again. It would be kinda funny for all those ebayers that sold preorders though:hippie::rolleyes1

Right I think that was due to some kind of glitch though. Those cancelled cutomers were offered another opportunity to order them earlier this month. If they cancel that again on people who were reordering, I could see how they would fear the backlash. They'd be losing customers for life!
