It was like an I Love Lucy episode in our house.

I was running the dishwasher & noticed some water on the area rug in front of the sink. I thought someone spilled something until I noticed the rug was soaked.

Open the dishwasher to find the water is not draining. UGH!

So, DH & I have this bright idea  to put Drano Gel into what we are calling the "clogged area".

We wait the 15 minutes for the Drano to do it's job. Turn the dishwasher on & out come bubbles...............EVERYWHERE!!! I mean, EVERYWHERE.........from the top, bottom, sides, even out of some grate on the front of the dishwasher.

All we could do is laugh. Our "plumber guy" as DH calls him can't come until the weekend. I have a feeling we'll need a new dishwasher though! :rotfl:

My kitchen looks that way after Belle "helps" do the dishes!

I hope it's not too serious.

You used regular dish liquid meant for the sink...didnt you?:lmao:

yikes!! That reminded me of the time I was at a friend's house and loaded up the dishwasher. I couldn't find dishwasher detergent so I figured Palmolive would be a fine substitute, so I filled the detergent cup with Palmolive and turned it on. Yup....bubbles everywhere. I think there was a Brady Bunch episode where that happened...or was it the washing machine???

Let m know if you end up with a new dishwasher...I need a new one soon but don't know which model to go with.

That happened to us once when I used regular dish liquid for the dishwasher.

See, growing up we didn't have an automatic dishwasher. We had three--myself, my DSister and DBrother. So I didn't know that dishwasher liquid was any different than the kind you use to handwash dishes with.

One night, after moving into DH and I's second apartment I was REALLY tired and figured, one soap was as good as another and filled the ENTIRE CUP with Dawn not-for-dishwashers liquid. When I woke up a couple hours later, there were suds all over the kitchenette!:scared1: It wasn't so funny at the time but looking back now, it's really hilarious.:rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao:

i had a cold once, and runny nose, and actually had a bubble come out of my nose. i know this is slightly off topic, but i just had to post it, and thought this thread was the place to do it.

I'd be very cautious cleaning up the mess beacause remember that Drano is caustic. You may wind up needing new flooring too, if it eats through. By all means wear gloves cleaning up the bubbles. Depending on the strength of the Drano it could irritate or burn your hands. Also wear eye protection because caustic(corrosives) if splashed onto the face or into the eyes can cause burns. OMG, I just kicked back into chemist mode after 13 years out of the lab! :rotfl:

OMG - don't even say new flooring. That's definitely not in any budget around here right now - we have tile flooring.

Now I'm nervous. :scared:

What's your homeowners deductible? Seriously, if it's say $500 and you need a new dishwasher due to this..... of course I don't know if I'd mention the Drano but if it damaged the floor too I'd inquire about it. The reason I say this is a few years back our original dishwasher went nuts (bad solenoid) and would fill whenever it felt like it . I'd get up in the morning and find a white discoloration on my hardwood in front of it. As we had a cat in renal failure at the time I thought she was having accidents during the night till I found the water in front. Then I told DH it was filling even if the door was open and he thought I was nuts till he saw it happen. Well I called insurance (we had a $250 deductible at the time) and they told me to get an estimate to refinish that part of the floor. Well DH just took fine grit sandpaper and it came right off without damaging the finish. I wish I had filed the claim though because we later discovered that the water had went down the floor vent (who puts a vent in front of a dishwasher?) and saturated the ductwork, it had to be replaced. Discovered that when I saw the cat looking down the vent and I looked down with the flashlight and saw my crawlspace! :rotfl: We never have a dull moment here.

I'm also one of the dummies that put dishwashing liquid in when we ran out of the dishwasher powder. I couldn't stop laughing seeing all the bubbles. I was 15 at the time! :lmao: I wouldn't be laughing now.

I once put a soap dispenser from one of the bathrooms into the dishwasher and it obviously still had soap in it, I thought it was a riot. Luckily my husband wasn't home since he cleans the hardwoods in the kitchen. ;)

Just a hint....

If you ever put the wrong soap in the dishwasher and have this problem simply open the dishwasher, add a cup of hair conditioner, and continue to run. The bubbles will disappear!
