OMG! Has anyone else's Gas Bill Skyrocketed??!!

Are you still with us? Do you require oxygen??
At $397 a month I'd need the paddles....
Debbie

$356 here....thermostat on 58 might, no higher than 62 day. We have not had sunshine for over a week, so not even any sun helping to warm the place. I am not quite sure how we can handle that rate or higher for the next 3-4 months. I used to make an extra mtg payment each year, but this will eat that up and then some!

My budget is down the tubes for this year. Between energy prices, gasoline, and increased property taxes. I'm sunk....and keep your paddles, I can't afford to have a heart attack :rotfl: .

Doesn't look like any possibility for Disney this year.

I saw that you posted that you live in Potomac. We're in Chevy Chase. The gas bills are truly terrible and our house assessment was awful as well. Hope things turn around. Susan

We just check our propane tank and we have used 300 gallons since July. We paid about $1.30 per gallon. Thus our total heating and hot water bill for the last 5 months was about $400. It has been cold here and we heat the home to 70 in the day and 67 at night.

My all-time-high utility bill in twenty plus years in my home was $336. I opened out bill this month and it's a whopping $515.

We are over $500 per month on our gas bill.

The bill that I pay next week was only 20.00 more than last years bill for the same time. I hope I don't go into cardiac arrest when I get my next bill after that. I keep my heat at 68 all the time, never lower it..I can't see where that makes a difference. How much time does the furnace run to reheat the house back up? Doesn't that use up tons of gas running non-stop?

This keeps coming up. It is absolutely a MYTH that you waste energy by lowering your thermostat because it has to "catch up" when you turn it back up. It just plain isn't true. There was a thread recently where a couple of thermodynamics experts explained this in detail. The bottom line is that the less time your heater runs during the day, the less your bill will be at the end of the month. So turning down the heat when the house is vacant, lowering the temp at nite, etc. will save you money. And the reverse is true during the summer months with the air conditioning.

I almost had heart failure when I opened this month's bill - $491! I didn't think it was going to be that bad but it's our first winter here and our gas and electric are combined. So the bill was the result of some really cold days/nights and all the xmas lights DH put out.

People at my office claim that our January bill is going to be even worse....
