What is everyones opinion on renting or borrowing? Dh and I were talking about this and we don't want to use up all our points in advance so do alot of people rent if they need extra or the borrow works better? what about paying cash for a night or is that nuts?

We bank and borrow on our contracts. We have not rented points although it is a viable option.

On longer trips we often split the trip between DVC and another WDW resort, usually on AP discounted rates.

We have rented points. I hate to borrow. And we have 230 points. There has been some trips where we were going with friends and I just didn't want to use up 2 years of points. so we bought points from a very nice person on these boards, and we and our neighbors are buying points from her again this year to go down. I just can't convince DH to get more points. Seeing we have college loans for one daughter and the other one on the verge of going(hopefully she gets a full scholarship and then I will buy her points - in my name naturally) . Hoping that when I take DH to see Saratoga, we are 15 minutes away from the real one, he may buckle a little, we will see in a few months.
In the end I would rather rent points than to stay in another WDW resort, simply because I know what I am getting and the rooms are larger and I save money with minor cooking.

Points during the week and on the weekend use cash. We do it all the time.

We wanted to enjoy the fact we have "pre-purchased" our vacations at Disney by buying DVC, so we bank and borrow rather than rent. Someone else on these boards in the past said they liked to stay in a "borrow" mode because then they never had any points go to waste. I think after a while we find what works best for each of our families.

We borrowed a couple years ago to get an extra trip in when we were coming down from up North to house hunt (naturally, we just had to fit in the extra time for WDW since we were here lol). It took us a very long time to get caught up again so be careful if you decide to go this route:rolleyes: Now we just don't borrow anymore simply because we're afraid of it taking forever to get caught up again. That was us though and we go every year - esp. now that we live so close. It wouldn't be so bad if we were the type to come down only every other year but........
