Anybody been to or live near Omaha? We are going for the College World Series of Baseball next week and for a baseball tournament for ds. I am looking for restaurant recommendations that are budget friendly and local favorites. Might be a long shot, but I thought if anbody would know, the DIS board would.

Thanks,
Lori

Hi:wave2:

I would like to be the first to welcome you to Omaha!!:cheer2:

I am would love to help you out with any questions that you have regarding my home town.

I guess that I have a few questions before I suggest any hometown favorites….

What area are you staying & where is the baseball tournament?

Many people enjoy Valentino’s Restaurant. There are many around town and this would be a perfect spot for a team dinner. :grouphug: Valentino’s is an Italian restaurant. It is a buffet which includes pizza, pasta, various meats & side dishes & has a wonderful salad bar! They have offered team discounts in the past or you can go to their website www.valentionos.com to find coupons.

Omaha has many restaurants to satisfy any palate…I can suggest more if you would like.

Do you have tickets to the CWS? Tickets can be quite hard to obtain but well worth it! If you are in town on the 14th, try to make it to the opening celebration which is free & open to the public. :jumping3: The atmosphere at the ball park is amazing!

I would also like to suggest that while visiting the Omaha Henry Doorly Zoo which is adjacent to Rosenblatt Stadium as well as the Old Market.

I am not sure how to PM here on dis….:hyper2: but please do, or post more questions & I will help as much as I can!

Have fun & Good Luck in the tournament!!!

:thumbsup2

Since I haven't been there in awhile, I would ask the current Nebraskan for reviews of Lazlo's, Spaghetti Works in Old Market, and Fireworks?

Valentinos is AWESOME. It's a Husker tradition! :)

Not as awesome, but another NE tradition, is Runza.

Just gotta say....GO BIG RED!

Spaghetti Works is still awesome. I was just there two weeks ago. It's all you can eat, pastas with choice of sauces and a salad bar.
I'll have to second the vote for Runza (fast food).
There is an awesome asian restaurant on West Dodge, but I can't remember the name. anyone else know what I'm thinking of?
I grew up in Omaha, but only get back for short visits.

Spaghetti Works & Runza are GREAT suggestions. :dance3:

Spaghetti Works in the Old Market has yummy pasta in a fun atmosphere. It is all you can eat pasta with your choice of sauce & it is served with the salad bar. Prices are very reasonable. There are many restaurants to choose from in the Old Market area.

Runza….what can I say?!?!? The best onion rings and French fries! They are well known for their “runza” which is a pocket sandwich filled with ground meat, cabbage & spices…..also, for very good burgers. Runza is a nice alternative for a fast food dining choice.

As for the Chinese restaurant. We have so many to choose from. I am not sure what restaurant you are thinking of on West Dodge. :confused3 China Road? China Buffett? So many & all so good!!!

I personally have not been to Lazlo’s but my brother is a big fan.

I guess coming from Nebraska I take so much for granted and don’t realize that people look forward to some of our local specialties!

A CWS must is a stop by Zesto’s Ice Cream. They serve soft serve ice cream and are always noted on television by the media as a favorite  spot.

Fireworks were also mentioned. June 14th is the opening celebration for the CWS and festivities start at 9:00 am with autograph sessions and team practices. A fan fest will be held all day outside the baseball stadium. There is a free concert :rockband: featuring Rodney Atkins just outside of the stadium gates starting at 5 p.m. Following the concert opening ceremonies are held inside Rosenblatt Stadium to salute the teams. Concluding the evening is a “firework extravaganza”!

There are many tents with vendors outside the stadium gates along 13th street selling many items for CWS. It is a fun place to stop by if you get some time.

I hope this information helps!!

Bookmarking! I will be in Omaha for one week in July while my boys are in a day camp. We will be eating out every night! I used to love spaghetti Works! Haven't been there in years and years. We will hit it for sure. Thanks everybody!

One of our favorite places is Johnny Sortino's on L Street....It's a pizza parlor, that's very reasonably priced and has great pizza. Anytime we go to Omaha, we try to stop there.

"Fireworks" was mentioned by my BIL as a restaurant, but he may just be crazy :P

Yes Fireworks is a resturant! Smoked meats and they also brew their own beer. We have enjoyed it.
There are lots of resturants in the Old Market area. Valentinos is a favorite with Husker Fans with very good pizza. We have not tried Lazlo's in Omaha but here in Lincoln it is very good.
Runza Resturants are also fav's with our family.

Enjoy your time in Omaha!

Bev

Anytime we are close to Omaha we have to stop (sometimes even go out of our way) at Lo Sole Mio, 3001 S 32nd Ave, Omaha, NE 68105, (402) 345-5656, http://losolemio.com. Members of my family have even driven the 2 hours from Kansas City just to have dinner. This is why we are fat and happy! :rotfl:

It is Italian but it is a nicer restaurant, may not be appropriate for the whole ball team, but good for moms (and dads) who can sneak away.

Thanks for all the wonderful suggestions!! You are awesome! We are staying at the Days Inn Bellevue which recently changed to something else but we do still have reservations. We are doing Thursday at the College World Series and the opening ceremony. Sounds like it will be a blast! Our team has 20 tickets to a game so dh and ds will go. I might have to find something else to do! Thanks, again!
