I *love* taking pictures but my old Olympus broke and they don't make it anymore so I got a new one. I like it, but I am still getting the feel for it.

Is anyone familiar with the Olympus FE-340? I would LOVE some help with the various ways to get really great pictures. I read on a thread about a different camera an S mode and an M mode? Does my camera have this? How can I shoot really great night shots (I saw Justin's post a few down about taking shots at night and I have been playing for about 15 minutes now lol)? How about really great, crisp portrait shots? Thank you so much in advance!

There is not likely going to be many users of your exact model on here with all the different ones on the market today. I suggest taking an evening to read the manual cover to cover. That will tell you what features you have and how to use them.

I have an FE 230 which is an older version of the 340. The S (shutter priority mode) and M (manual mode) aren't available on the 340. Your camera has auto mode, a programable auto mode and various scene modes.

To take night shots you will need to set the camera to night portrait or night scene mode and most likely use a tripod because the shutter will be set to about a 4 seconds exposure. For portraits use either auto, programable auto or the portrait mode.

Also, as ukcatfan suggested, read the manual from cover to cover.

I take advantage of the software that comes with the cameras. The program that came with my Olympus 700 series included the option to receive email tips and hints from Olympus. They are mostly specific to my camera series. I have found them helpful.

I have the FE-340. Here is a link to another thread where I posted quite a few pics taken with it. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?p=23595033#post23595033&highlight=FE-340

I previously had and Olympus C-4040 that got stolen, then an Olympus C-5000 that I got really good pictures with, but upgraded to the FE-340 to get something more pocket sized.

I am very happy with the size of the FE-340, I have it in my purse all the time. The sensor is smaller than the one in my C500 was and the pics don't seem quite as crisp to me. With the exception of the Macro setting. It also doesn't have a continuous shooting mode, which I miss. And my old Olympus had some limited manual setting that I don't have on the FE-340. How's that for a mixed review. ;) I would rate it 7 out of 10.
