Olympic Trials!!

Galen Rupp breaking Steve Prefontaine's 40 year old Olympic Trials record in the 5k tonight was quite a story. Watch for him in London. Fastest non-African in the 10k.

Ashton Eaton and Trey Hardee in the Decathlon look to be 1-2, and maybe not in that order. You heard it here first.

Nick Symmonds always runs an exciting race in the 800m. (He's dating Paris Hilton? Really?)

Jesse Williams in the HJ. "Only" 6 foot tall but he jumps 7-9.

Alysia Montano "the girl with the flower in her hair" in the 800m. Might surprise.

Hoping the 4x100 teams can handle that baton this time.

Just wanted to remind people that tonight is the first night of trials for Women's gymnastics. It starts at 9pm eastern on NBC.

Really looking forward to it!!!! Do you have a favorite? We like Maroney.

I like her too. Hope she's all recovered from her concussion and injuries at the VISA championships. I also Like Jordyn Weiber (who doesn't?), Gabby Douglas, Alicia Sacramone (I just like HER. The veteran as it were), and Aly Raisman.

WOW. Lots of mistakes and falls happening tonight in the ladies gymnastics. Nastia Liukin was particularly disappointing on bars. The balance beam seems to be eating them alive as well.

My fav is Gabby.

They definitely showed their nerves tonight! I'm sure night 2 will be better.

I don't follow gymnastics but I watched the trials last night. I though they looked messy. Hopefully they get it together for London!

Gymnastics all done! The girls still had a few flaws tonight (poor Nastia and Rebecca!) but I am so proud of the team that was chosen for both them men and women. I think Team USA is going to be a HUGE contender in London!

I am also excited for tomorrow's run-off in the women's 100m between Allison Felix and Jeneba Tarmoah. I'm glad that's the route they went with to break the tie.

Man I am so jazzed for London now and so happy that NBC showed so much of the trials. Now I will really feel a "connection" to Team USA at the games.

This is not the US team, but did anyone see that Usain Bolt came in second to Yohan Blake in the 100m and 200m? DS14 is a sprinter and those are his events, plus the 4x100 relay. We tend to watch those events pretty closely.

The girls shouldn't be perfect for the trials anyway. They need to peak in London.

Congrats girls! They're the favorite for Olympic gold!

Thanks for the recaps! I hadn't been keeping up with the schedule, and I am so mad that I have been missing it. Especially gymnastics tonight. That and swimming are my favorite events. And I was sitting here channel surfing, but really only looking at the cable channels, so I completely missed that it was on NBC. :headache:

Is there much coverage this week? I'm going to be sure to watch from now on!

I loved watching the men's gymnastics. It is amazing what they can do on high bar.

I am totally confident in the USA Olympic Gymnastics team after watching the trials. I hope we get the gold in London!

The only thing standing between the gold is Russia and injuries for the Women's gymnastics team. Also there is a death camp at the ranch which will be interesting to see who lasts. I would not be surprised if Elizabeth or Anna had to take someone's spot at the last minute. I'm excited to see the ladies compete and I'm thrilled for Parkettes that they have an alternate after there horrifying documentary years ago!

Looks like there will be no runoff tonight between Felix and Tarmoh (article). I thought all along that Nike would work behind the scenes to make sure Felix went to the Olympics to run the 100 and while we may never know for sure I really think that is likely what happened. What I don't get is Tarmoh's assertion that she won it originally as her reason for not contesting the runoff. That picture sure looks like a dead heat to me.

I think in the end Felix is a better runner and gives us a better chance at taking two medals in the 100m since I don't see anyone beating a healthy Carmelita Jeter.

I can't believe they won't have the run-off. I'm shocked. I like Felix and maybe she is the better runner, but I'm surprised Tarmoah would roll over after all the hoopla.
