Olympic Gold Medal (Disk)

Anyone else not like the Olympic Medals. I saw Shawn White's interview with Bob Costa's last nite and I really don't like the new medals. Bob Costa's told Shawn that the Italians replicated the Pantheon, the building with the whole in the center of the ceiling in Rome. Shawn was like "really, I didn't know that".

To me it looks like a CD.

That's the exact same thing DH and I were saying. we don't like them at all.

I thought the medals look like donuts, too! Also they look like big Lifesavers candies. Oh well, each olympics has their own design of the medals.

I saw the medal this morning on one of the moring shows. That thing is ugly. And even though it isn't, he does look cheap.

Excuse me for being ignorant, but I didn't know the medals style change
I just assumed it was always one style, until I saw the speed skater wearing it over the weekend. It looks so ugly.

At first I didn't like them, but the more I saw them the more I thought they were kind of cool. I was on the official Olympic site last night looking at some pictures of them, and they really are pretty neat. I want one.

Some info:
The medal concept was worked upon by Ottaviani International and the TOROC graphic team, headed by Dario Quatrini. The medal is round with an empty space at the centre, representing the Italian piazza. The medal will be wrapped up in its ribbon, which, unlike in previous Games, will not be sewn to its top. The front of the medal will include the graphic elements of the Games, while the back of the medal will feature the pictogram of the sports discipline in which the medal was won. To highlight the three-dimensional characteristics of the medal, its surface has been carefully made using full and empty spaces, with shiny and satiny textures.

OT, but wasn't Shawn the cutest thing? I teared up watching him at the ceremony trying hard not to cry on camera. And his interview just cracked me up, saying how the gold medal would help him pick up babes and telling how his parents called in sick to take him to the mountains to snowboard. I'm sure they just loved that part. That Shawn White is adorable

I also thought that was pretty funny...his parents must be thinking OMG! He was so cute on the podium trying not to cry. I have never even heard of him before, I'm not into snowbaording, but he was too cute!

I think they're great--shiny and unusual. They look a lot better than those dull, clunky ones from the last Winter Olympics in SLC. But I'm sure the athletes who get the medals couldn't care less what they look like.

I agree, I really do not like the donut looking metal. Maybe if it was smaller?
