the Italians replicated the Piathalon, the building with the whole in the center of the ceiling in Rome.

Art history major, can't resist ... it's the Pantheon. And BTW I love the design of the medals, so different and modern.

With the ribbon through it, it looks like the CD's we hang from ribbons to keep the birds and bunnies out of our garden.

I think the medals look nice in the pictures. But in real life, they are too big! I thought they looked like CD's too. They should have made them a little smaller and thicker.

I do like how shiny they are this year, but I think that on TV, the bronze looks too much like the gold.

I totally agree here. They look really cool in those pictures posted here, and its not the hole in the middle that makes them look goofy--it's that they're way too big. I honestly thought Shawn was wearing a fake medal just to be silly last night.

Count my DD's in as people who think they look like CD's! They both said the first time they saw them(at different times) that they look like CD's!

The photos make them look better than they look being warn. We saw them on an HDTV and they look thin and huge. Too shiny to see the design. Does not look good on TV.

I edited my OP so it was correct. Did you ever go to Italy. The Pantheon is really a cool place. All the college kids hang out in front of the building since it is right next to the American University. Our Archbishop told me he was a teacher at the University for over 10 years and used to sit on the steps of the Pantheon for lunch a couple of times a week.


You can tell I hate change-I really don't like the new medal-Did Shawn White change his ribbon on his. I swear he had a different ribbon on last night.

This would be my guess

or the Piazza Plebiscito in Naples

I would've expected something a little less abstract/modern, a little more ornate if they were going to argue that this medal is representative of Italian urban planning.

In short, it's a stretch. It should've been more sculptural and Baroque.
