Does anyone know where I can find out this info? Trying to help DH out with a homework question:confused:

Thanks,
Jeannie

Just an odd guess here, but could it be Woolworth?

I think it is K-Mart---K-Mart was origionally kress Co.

Hope this info is a starting point on gathering the information needed.

My guess would be Sears (& Roebuck)?

Sears gets my vote, too.

I think I remember hearing long ago it was JCPenney. Back then it was know as "The Golden Rule" or something along that line. This is a very old memory so....

Here's what I've found online so far..
SH Kress (now closed) 1896
Kresge (now KMART) 1899
Woolworth's 1879
JCPenny 1902
Sears and Roebuck 1893
Macy's 1857... so far it looks like Macy's is the oldest!

I thought Woolworth's went out of business a couple years ago?

I'm pretty sure Woolworth's went out of business in 97' or 98'.
