Old school landline telephones.

Ex-wife....who only wears 👗 👗 dresses and skirts had a rotary for 30 years... not a single push button phone.... but I think phone service disconnected land lines to her neighborhood or rotary phone stopped working... when were married we had 9 rotary phones in the 7 bedroom house.... nieces loved it!!!!...
And she still has her 1960s VW
Ohhhhh, I envy her the l960's VW beetle! I had a l960 VW beetle and Loved it. It was my first car and was worn out when Dad bought it for me. But I loved that little bug. I bought myself a brand new one with my first job. Now, the VW's are so different that I am not interested. I wish we would have had hindsight and kept both VW's. Oh well....

Let's keep in mind, that most (especially home) "landlines" are NOT the good old fashioned POTS lines most of us grew up with. They are really VoIP (voice over IP) lines, especially if they are bundled with your internet. If you lose internet, you lose home phone service. Yes, they are still a secondary means of communications separate from cellular, but not as infallible as POTS lines used to be.
Agreed, and you also lose them during a power outage unless you pay extra for a battery backup. Instead, we purchased an automatic generator. Fingers crossed, our Iternet, and landline, are generally more reliable than our electricity, but if not, he cell phone will pick up a tower at the end of our driveway.

For anyone that might be holding onto the landline, and the monthly costs associated with it, because you don't want to give out your cell phone number, take a look at getting a free Google Voice number.

With it you get a phone number that can be used with or without another phone. You can place and receive calls using that number from your computer or from an app on your cell phone.

It can also send and receive texts.

You can set it up to auto forward all calls to another number or have it screen you calls, requiring the calling party to record a brief message that is then forwarded to your cell phone. You answer the call and decide if you want to send them to voicemail or connect the call and talk to them.

Get tired of that number? Get a new one!

My wife gets a new one every school year. Gives that number out to the parents that insist they must have her number. It really lets her control who she talks/texts with while not adding a bunch of tests or calls to her cell phone.
Good point. We have one, same number as our landline except for the area code. I rarely use it, because I must
configure its best use for us. The only problem is no websites or rewards programs (so far) accept it as their systems detect that we are trying to avoid-their incessant solicitations.

we have an automatic whole home generator as well but still purchased 3 inexpensive battery backups (less than $100 each). 2 are attached to computers b/c it's not great for them to shut down for that moment it takes for the generator to turn on when it detects the power loss and the 3rd I have attached to the dish Hopper b/c if it loses power then I have to wait for it to rebuild the scheduler.
