Old, New & Long Lost Friends, with a Side of Frump! FINISHED! DL TR started 1.20.14!

I don't think I've ever been on the newest version of JII. I only remember the old one with the rainbow tunnel. Part of me wants to ride the newer version to see why so many people don't seem to enjoy it as much, but part of me doesn't want to tarnish the memory of the old ride with the less awesome new ride. :confused3

It stresses me out when I see parents letting their kids do dangerous things and not stop them! It's a good thing that kid didn't fall out of the boat though. I just wish that people would at least try to care about their kid's safety.

Ohmygosh, that combo shawarma platter looks so good! That's so much food! There's no way I would be able to eat all of that. But if it tasted as good as it looks... maybe! :)

Catching up from the beginning of April!

Oh man, I kind of had a mini meltdown when I scrolled down and saw the buffalo head from Country Bear Jamboree. AGH, I hate buffalo; they scare me to no end! Good thing I have a ton more updates of yours to read to distract me, haha.

Love that you got to meet and hang out with Jess! Yay for DISmeets!

Enchanted Tales with Belle was something I didn't bother waiting for in December because the line was ridiculously long during the Christmas break. I really hope to see it during my upcoming trip! I especially want to see the mirror magic!

Ahhh, I love your photos from Brickering just because of how empty the park is! I think my husband would love to do that, but I'd probably get nervous that CMs would tell us to get out even though I know that they don't do that.

I want to do that IBM thing just to win pins! Is that still there? I too think it's fun to just win things, haha.

Awesome pics! :thumbsup2

Thank you!

So happy that you got to sit in the front row for Soarin'! I've been on Soarin' 5 times (4 times at Epcot and once at DCA) and haven't had a front row viewing yet. Since I'll be a single rider in October, I wonder if I can ask the CM if she could place me in the front. Really love that ride and I think I would love it even more without dangling legs in my view!

I think this was our 4th or 5th time on Soarin', and I'm pretty sure every other time we had been in the back. I'm sure as long as the wait times aren't too ridiculous (and in October, they usually aren't) and you ask politely, they'll have no problem putting you in a front row seat! We were actually going to consider asking this time if we hadn't wound up in one by chance. And yes! It really is much better without feet swinging in front of you the entire time!

I actually have NEVER been on Journey Into Imagination (I will be changing that in a couple weeks) but I SO wish I could have ridden the old one. It sounds like it was so amazing! What used to be upstairs?

YAY for getting the front of Soarin', finally! Ya can't do it any other way, really!

AHH, an update with Maelstrom and Gran Fiesta Tour is an update I will automatically enjoy. :rotfl: Good thing you didn't experience any untimely deaths in Mexico.

Personally, I don't think you're missing much by not going on JII, lol, but it will be really interesting to hear your perspective of it as a first-timer. Upstairs was ImageWorks - they had some interactive games, something called Dreamfinder's School of Drama you acted in front of a green screen and were in a western/space scene, and the amazing RAINBOW TUNNEL. There is a guy named Martin who has made some amazing tribute videos to old Disney attractions, and if you have a spare 38 minutes, it's totally worth it to watch his tribute to Journey Into Imagination and Imageworks: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyUNTuvH6I8

Love your report.

Thank you so much!

I just can't bring myself to do the Grand Fiesta Tour again. I think it's because it's too much like Small World, and I definitely can't do Small World...:faint:

Nice meet up with Madame Frump. I think Norman Jr. is becoming more popular than Mickey. :rotfl: I even had to get a pic on my last trip.

Haha, I definitely see the resemblance between Gran Fiesta Tour and its a small world; I actually like iasw, especially since they modified the soundtrack so that it's not complete repetition of the song/lyrics throughout. But yeah, I definitely had the Three Caballeros song in my head for awhile after we got off the ride!

It's futile to try and avoid or deny the presence of Norman Jr. They just need to go ahead and put him on a pin/t-shirt/full merch line already.

RIP original JII and Dreamfinder. I miss him so. And the rainbow room! I had forgotten about that! It's one of those buried Disney memories but I certainly remember being able to play with all the cool stuff upstairs. My favorite was the giant pin board where you could make cool shapes! I think my dad stuck his face in it! (gross to think about now, though...)

Mmm, that shwarma plate looks soooooo delicious! Can I have some? Like right now???

How fun to hang with Jess! She does seem like such a fun, genuine person!

Yes, I remember that pin board!! I put this link in the post above for Marissa, but if you want to experience a bit of JII nostalgia (and have some time to kill), you should check out this video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyUNTuvH6I8

I could go for more of that shawarma now as well. Mmm....

I'm glad we were able to hang out with her too! It's nice when you're finally able to connect with people who you've become friends with online, and actually be able to spend time with them, as opposed to a quick "Hi!/Bye!" interaction.

FINALLY CAUGHT UP!

I'll save you my comments on everything, but start by saying that your TR has been great so far!

Some of your 'Brickering' shots are really awesome. I'm particularly fond of the third one up from the bottom of your post.

I wish I knew about the pin collecting! I love free stuff!

Glad you got to meet up with Jess again. I've been reading her DCP TR and it sounds like she's have an amazing time. It's practically inspiring me to apply for DCP!

Can't remember if I said anything yet or not, but... WOOOOOOOOO DISNEYLANDDDDD! How exciting! No doubt you can count me in for that TR!

Can't wait to hear more!

I'm behind on reading TRs again too, so I'm hoping to catch up on them (including yours) later tonight. Apparently in order to keep up with trip reports, I just need to have more 3-day weekends, heh. Someone get on that!

Thank you! I debated on whether or not I should put up so many similar shots from Main Street USA, but I really could not decide between them which ones I liked the best! Although, I don't think it's really possible to take a bad picture of Main Street. Can I be back there now? Please?

You should apply for DCP! I absolutely regret not doing it when I was younger, so I'm glad I can live vicariously through Jess's tweets and updates.

Wheeeeeeeee Disneyland! The real challenge is going to be for me to try and get this report closer to finished before going on that trip. I have to start hustling!

I like you! I love The Pogues and Raglan Road too - you have excellent taste!

I just found you today (living under a rock, sorry!) and am now all caught up. I'll get to experience NFL for the first time this October and have been devouring everything I can find. CANNOTWAIT. I'm kinda hoping that, as a huge BaTB fanatic, prepping myself now will mean I won't disolve into a heap of happy sobbing when I go through Belle's village for the first time. I'm not looking at it as spoiling it, but as a preventative measure against the ugly cry.

Really enjoying your report and looking forward to future installments.

Haha, clearly that means I think you have excellent taste as well!

Hahahahaha. I'm laughing so hard at how you're trying to pre-emptively keep your emotions in check the first time you wander into Belle's village, because it's totally futile. I had seen a ton of pictures/video of the area before I went, and I still had tears in my eyes because of how much it felt like I was walking through a scene of the movie. October really isn't too far away now! Are you getting a dinner ADR for Be Our Guest, or going for the counter service?

Love this report so far, can't wait for more :goodvibes

Thank you!

I hear you about JII. I rode it simply because I want to do everything in the parks at least once (that's why I've even gone on Stitch's Great Escape, despite all the warnings I received :lmao:). I mean... it's not terrible. It still has Figment, and they added in Eric Idle, they have the tune of One Little Spark, just with some new lyrics. But yeah. It's a tossup to if you'll walk away just feeling nostalgic for the old version or you'll start to just feel negatively about the pavilion. Maybe try a video of it on YouTube first?

Hahahaha, sorry to scare you with the buffalo head! I promise, there are no more buffalo in this trip report, lol.

I hope you get to check out Enchanted Tales with Belle this time! Like I said in my update, it works out really well to go at the end of evening EMHs, since the wait will be minimal, and when you are done the attraction, most people have cleared out of the park.

We really had no issue at any of the parks where we stayed late to take pictures - most cast members didn't bat an eye, and the few who did talk to us were in pleasant moods. Think of it this way - Magic Kingdom wouldn't have the kiss goodnight technically after closing if they didn't want you to stay there and see it!

I'm 90% sure the IBM thing is still there - it had just opened the week or so before we arrived in January, so I'd be surprised if it was gone already.

Just found this now and i need to catch up on it! I am really enjoying it so far though!
I totally agree with you when you say you follow the frump way of life! I have been reading their trip reports and they're just so AWESOME!!!! I too consider myself a frump ;)

Chapter 18: Who knew something with school in the name could be so good?

After leaving Morocco, we continued to work our way around World Showcase.

img6898a.jpg

We stopped in China and watched the drummers for a bit, followed by checking out the train set/village in Germany.

img6899q.jpg

img6900pk.jpg

As we made our way back to Norway, there was a very important stop we needed to make!

img6901e.jpg

It was time for me to have my very first taste of schoolbread!!

img6902dg.jpg

Even behind the glass it looks delicious. Come to me schoolbread, it is time for you to be mine!

625516_10100301480971663_1143980655_n.jpg

Look how glorious it is!

img6903v.jpg

Can you ever have too many schoolbread pictures? (NO YOU CANNOT).

img6904jl.jpg

img6906m.jpg

Guys, this is one snack that totally lives up to the hype! I couldn't understand why I had never had one before, and kept glaring at Scott every time he tried to have some. Schoolbread is not for sharing!

After I finished this amazing treat, I decided it was getting to be about the time we wanted to head back to the room so that we would have enough time to put on long pants and get to DHS in order to have enough time to get a spot for Fantasmic. We decided to fit in one more attraction before we left Epcot for the day.

img6907y.jpg

I decided that I wanted Jess to be a part of my future, so we rode together with Scott behind us!

img6909g.jpg

img6910w.jpg

5l5cmg.jpg

We made sure to thank the Phoenicians, and find out what our future had in store!

img6913l.jpg

img0228vb.jpg

Apparently even if we're not together, Scott and I make the same face in the future! Soulmates.

One thing Spaceship Earth did NOT predict about our future was who we would run into as we were leaving SSE. DAISY DUCK.

Most of you won't be aware of this, but Scott and Daisy Duck have a history. Settle in kids, it's story time!

Several years ago during one of our visits to the Animation Academy in DHS, we were drawing Daisy Duck. Partway through drawing her, Scott must have started getting bored and decided to make some alterations to Daisy. I caught a glance at what he was drawing and was making my best effort to not start HOWLING with laughter, which basically meant I was shaking uncontrollably, face bright red, tears streaming down my face. It caught the attention of a young boy sitting on the opposite side of Scott, and he made no secret of his amusement of the drawing. We then heard his mother say "Don't laugh. Stop laughing!" which made each of us want to crack up laughing even harder.

So, what was so funny? Behold!

IMG_0302.jpg

Let's take a closer look at that, shall we?

IMG_0304.jpg

:rotfl2: I still can't stop laughing every time I look at it! So basically, ever since that day, it has been a running joke that Daisy is Scott's nemesis.

So OF COURSE that means we had to get a picture with her!

img6915t.jpg

:lmao:

We took another picture with Jess (which you can see over in her DCP trip report!) and then, sadly, it was time for us to say goodbye to her. =( She started training the next day, so this was the last time we were able to see her during our trip. I'm so so glad that we were able to at least spend a few hours with her, and hope that this won't be the last time we're in Disney together!

Continued in next chapter

Mmmm... SCHOOL BREAD! I just finished breakfast, but I'm already hungry again! :thumbsup2 And it's only 2.69? Somehow in my head I remembered it being more expensive than that because it's so delicious!

Ohmygosh, Scott's drawing of Daisy Duck is hilarious! It reminds me of Vampire Donald Duck. I'm glad that he and Daisy were able to put their differences aside long enough to take a picture. :rotfl:

We will hopefully be doing BOTH lunch and dinner :) We have a dinner ressie for BoG on the Friday night of our trip and I plan on waiting in line for lunch earlier in the week - as long as I can convince DBF that it's worth waiting for. I may or may not already have my outfits picked for both meals. (#nerd) As it stands right now, only the west wing and ballroom are open at dinner, so I'll have to go at lunch to explore the rose room - plus I'll feel less weird wandering around to take a hundred pictures during lunch when more people are roaming about...

AHHHH School Bread. Gawd, how does something so badly named taste so good?

OMG that Daisy is frightening. I am seriously going to have nightmares now.
That is one of the very best/worst drawings ever. :lmao:

A monthly long weekend dedicated to catching up on DIS would be lovely- I think we're on to something!

On to this update...

I love bread, so I don't know why I haven't tried Schoolbread. Seeing it makes me think it looks more like a doughnut, which makes me like it even more. I need to remedy this lack of Schoolbread situation immediately!

Scott looks nervous that Demonic Daisy might strike at any moment! He'd better watch out! :rotfl:

The drawing of Daisy had me rolling! :rotfl: Has a very post-apocalyptic zombie look to it!

Have yet to have tried school bread even though I've heard about it so many times. Perhaps that will go on my to do list for October!

Just came across your trip report today and got all caught up!

I love the drawing of Daisy Duck! Hilarious!

As for School bread. I want to love it. I really do. But I hate Coconut! So I guess that's never going to happen . . .

I know, it's such a great deal for how delicious and big it is!

I think the only reason we were able to get the picture is because she had JUST walked out, and we ran over there before he could figure out what was happening, LOL.

It's official I need to try school bread!!

I love the daisy drawing!! Too funny!

Yes you do! And then you'll wonder why on Earth you waited so long!

Scott will be very happy to hear you loved his drawing!

Great update! :)

Thank you!

The wait in line, really isn't bad, even if it looks long. When we got in line, it was out to the end of the bridge and from there it was about 20 minutes to get into the building, then another 20 to go through ordering our food, being seated and having it arrive at our table. The Rose Room is gorgeous, and definitely worth a trip during lunch to check it out!

Right?? So many people are probably missing out on it because of the way it's named.

Just wait until you see what Scott drew this year....

It is kind of like a cream filled donut, but not quite as dense and covered with coconut. I actually like it way more than almost any donut that I've ever had.

Hahaha, I think that's exactly what was going through his head - she was not to be trusted...
