Did people embrace the first black Princess as much as they will embrace these shirts, No. The tickets sales prove that!

Like I said I'm not buying it. It seems to "bandwagony" for me.

I agree with both of these posts.

More power to Old Navy, but I'm not a bandwagon type of girl.

I also never liked being a walking billboard, whether I agree with the theme or not. Well, I'll be a walking billboard for Mickey Mouse shirts, but he's my exception.;)

Not debating. Just stating my opinion just like every one else is.:)

With the amount of money the business does make on the minority or the opressed is insane. This still helps the cause even if old navy profits. People can be doing something good for the wrong reasons. It still helps.

These look great, but sound like they'll be hard to find. DS13 made his own gay pride t-shirt at an afterschool club called "gay straight alliance." It's tie dyed and says "GSA" on the front and "Use another word" on the back. He's been asked more than once, though, why he has a girl scouts of america shirt on. :lmao:

I believe people didn't support Princess and the frog because of all the Obama business that was going on at that time too.

I LOVE the princess and the frog and made a room full of military men watch it with me.

Now I'm not for obama but it had nothing to do with race. My DAD and MOM and dad were just over the whole race talk/issue thing. They felt putting out this movie was a political statement. Like if they went to this movie they'd be promoting him... I was like what? My mom's mexicans (actually from there not texas) and my DAD is for lack of a better word "white" doctor. He's your catholic, republican, I hate hippy's type guy. I made them watch the movie with me later and he loved it. It was just so absurd at that time it was horrible timing.

How many Mexicans does your mom have? :confused3

:lmao: Just kiddin' ya'. But, I couldn't resist.

Err.. that is still racism. Not to mention he is half white so the argument makes no sense. On any level. At all. I'm not saying you are racist at all. But saying "We don't like the black princess because of the biracial president" is judging someone by their skin tone and skin tone alone. So yeah, racist. Now I feel like watching Princess and the Frog because it is one of our favorite princess movies in this house. But then again I like Obama ;)

Back to the original topic - yay t-shirts, yay for profits going to it gets better so I can watch some more commercials that make me cry and smile at the same time :lovestruc

Agreed. Why do people believe that EVERYONE should be promoting or supporting? Why is that judging? I love Old Navy but I won't be buying that shirt for myself or daughter. Doesn't mean I hate ANYONE! Wearing a shirt means nothing. All it is is a marketing tool to get people in their stores to buy clothing. They are jumping on the band wagon while it's hot which is smart. Not buying doesn't mean hating though.
There are so many other groups out there still struggling to be accepted and appreciated. Did people embrace the first black Princess as much as they will embrace these shirts, No. The tickets sales prove that! DO you buy your little girls different race baby dolls?

I don't know if I will buy a shirt or not just because I am not a tee-shirt person.

In answer to your final question... Yes my daughter has different race baby dolls.

Yes actually I do buy my daughter (and my son *gasp* ) dolls of different races.

I didn't like the Princess and the Frog because I thought it was a mediocre movie. I felt the same way about all of the later princess movies though and I include Tangled in that.

I would buy a shirt like this. I think it sends a nice message plus it's cute.

Dang it! I was all ready to head to Old Navy to pick up a shirt. I guess not now. :(

As much as Stacy & Clinton may disagree I love a message tee!

Hey I said I Loved the movie too. I thinks it's pretty obvious to anyone it was pretty absurd people's reasoning. I'm just sharing and sharing is caring.

Love the shirts! :thumbsup2

PS...that commercial really does make me cry! Especially when Woody comes on...How brilliant is that?

I believe people didn't support Princess and the frog because of all the Obama business that was going on at that time too.

Princess and the Frog had a problem at the box office because it had the word "princess" in the title. It drove away most of the boy audience, which is why Disney quickly changed the name of their next animated film from "Rapunzel" to "Tangled," and featured Flynn so prominently in the advertising.

Disney had a similar problem this year with "Mars Needs Moms," which in addition to being badly reviewed, had an unfortunate title that most likely drove away the older kids it was hoping to attract.

I happened to love Princess and the Frog, but I know people who didn't. Not because of the color of the princess, but because they thought the story was bland and they didn't like the music.

I don't know a single person who rejected the film on race, or because of the current president...in fact, the film was in production long before the 2008 election, so anyone who thinks the film sprang into existence because of that, doesn't know a whole lot about how animated movies work.

My friends' kids loved Princess and the Frog, and they have the toys. I saw a few girls wearing Tiana bathing suits at the pool this weekend. So kids don't seem to be shunning it based on anything as sinister as racism.

I think that rejecting a film based on the President's race is bizarre. Surely that can't be anyone's reasoning...

I predict there will be some major backlash against Old Navy once this story gains more traction. I don't believe private companies should be engaging in campaigns to sway public opinion on a subject. Leave the politics to the politicians.
