Old Key West - room conditions/cleanliness

We've been staying at OKW as a group for the past few years (most recently in Feb of this year) because a 2BR at AP rate is the most economical way for 6 of us to stay together.
It's my favorite of the villa resorts because of the size of the rooms, and I like the theme.
Cleanliness has never been an issue for us, and I've stayed all over the property. The furniture is getting worn, but I've stayed in a few different non-Disney villa/condo style hotels aroind Orlando, and I've yet to see one where the furniture was in pristine shape.
OKW kitchen is well stocked, the bathrooms and living spaces are huge, and I think the decor is more theme-specific than dated.

Hi
I just signed up specifically to comment on this thread. I'm just coming to the end of a fortnight stay at OKW. It's my second stay in a studio- last time (4 years ago) I thought it was a bit dated but nonetheless clean and I love the resort in general.
Tonight I happened to look behind my bed as I had a huge mosquito bite yesterday and was feeling a bit paranoid about insects! To my disgust I found old decaying food and hair grips from a previous guest and it's left me feeling really queasy about the fact it's been there this whole time. There are dead insects behind my kids' bed and I dread to think what else- I won't look any more!
Someone is on their way to clean it so I can go to bed... been waiting about half an hour now and I'm not happy!
The first week we had to get them to come in and clean our bathroom properly- there were dead bugs all over the ceiling and gathered dust and dirt in the grouting, over the doorframe etc. We were offered an upgrade/Disney dollars so we felt they dealt with it to our satisfaction. But this is the final straw and my next Disney stay will have to be elsewhere and with a deep clean beforehand!
The management are fantastic at dealing with issues and have partially reimbursed us- but I'd rather have a clean room and a stress free stay amy time.

That's just awful.
You would've thought once you'd initially raised issues-
a full, deep clean would have been the appropriate action to follow up with.
We're going end sept/beg October and we've not had problems with cleanliness previously; however, I will be inspecting thoroughly on checkin.

My mother and I stayed in a studio 2 weeks ago. While we both felt that the unit was in need of a refurbishment, the unit itself was clean and the beds were comfy. We realized that the air conditioner wasn't working and they had someone there within 10 minutes! They fixed it and the rest of our stay was fantastic. They were working on a set of buildings around the corner from ours but we heard no noise nor were bothered by it. I would stay here again esp. on a visit where we wanted some down time.

I googled to get info on the mattresses at OKW & found this discussion board. I think the last time we stayed at OKW was just after they had done some updates...switching out the ceramic tile floors to "hardwood". It's not hardwood, it's vinyl that appears to look somewhat like hardwood. I think it was 2013.
Anyway, we stayed at POR in 2014 and the mattresses there were very hard. More like concrete than a mattress. Since I have a very bad back the quality of the mattress is extremely important. We're leaving in the morning for OKW so I'll be checking the cleanliness first thing and the mattress second. We always get a 1-bedroom when it's just my husband and me. OKW has the largest accommodations as it was the first DVC property to be built. There is an incredible amount of space & the grounds are lovely. I'll post again after we check in & let y'all know how it is. Disney Rocks!

OKW was the dirtiest DVC we ever stayed in, by a mile. Like way dirtier.

(We've stayed at VWL, BLT, BCV and BWV as well)

It was a shame because the grounds are lovely and the units are nice and big.

I thought the beds were comfortable at OKW (we've stayed there at least 16 or more times). Never had a problem with a dirty villa.

When did you stay there? What made it dirty? The grounds? The floors, the furniture? The kitchen?

Fall 2015
The unit itself was grungy (carpet, upholstery) but that's not such a big deal
The bathroom had blood dripped all over the floor and the drops went out onto the carpet

We just stayed 8 nights in a 2 bdr villa and had no issues with cleanliness. The villa was well maintained, large enough for 9 ppl and the beds were very comfortable. We stayed in the old turtle pond section if that makes any difference.

Also recently completed a 2 BR stay in late August. The only issue we had was the battery in the thermostat happened to die during our stay. Otherwise everything was great. In fact we commented on why they felt they needed a total refurbishment as all was well so far as we could see. The sofa and love seat in the living room area even appeared to be new or close to it.
