Old Key West questions

I will be a DVC member's "guest" during the first week in December. Myself, my wife, and my 2 year old son will be staying in a studio.

Is there a VCR in the room? I read on the Dis sites that you can rent tapes there. But did not ready about VCR's in the room. Can you rent a VCR if there isn't one in the room?

Which buildings do you suggest that I request. I would like to be buy the food area and also the bs stop. Closeness to the swimming pool is not necessary.

I understand that maid service is not available for the entire trip. Does maid service happen for one night during your stay? We will be there 5 nights. Can we request more towels if needed without be charged the fee to have rooms maid up.

Any tips or suggestions would also be greatly appreciated for anyone that has stayed there. Thanks in advance!

I don't think that any of the DVC resorts have VCR's in the studios, including OKW. I don't know about renting one, but that may be a possibility.

As far as a building, check out the DVC site to see if there is a map to check buildings or ask the people who you are guests of to see their DVC member book that has a great map of the buildings and what they are close to. Everyone is different about the location that they like.

You will get a trash & towel service on the 4th day of your stay. You get towels at the pool area, so you wouldn't need more for that. Otherwise, you can do laundry free, so you could have clean towels daily at the cost of detergent.

We stayed at OKW last summer and loved it! It was so peaceful. The only suggestion I would have would be to consider a second floor in a 2 story building. We were on the first floor directly under a grand villa and the noise from above when they walked around was very annoying.

I am a DVC member at OKW and I know that there are not VCR's in the studios, only in the larger units. I have never inquired about requesting one for a studio, but never hurts to ask.

When requesting room location I would try to get in one of the buildings close to the Hospitality House where the restaurant (Olivia's) and fast food (Good's Food to Go) are located as well as the bar ( Gurgling Suitcase) the general store and guest services.

The other option is a unit on Turtle Pond Rd. There is a snack bar at the pool with a limited menu & hours (cold sanwiches, salads and snacks).

Additional towels are available for $6 per complete set (4 bath, 4 washcloths) from housekeeping. It is frowned upon for members and guests to use pool area towels in their rooms.

We liked Pennisular Road area for the easy walk to the front where there is Olivias, Goods, etc. It is also the first bus stop on the five bus stops within the resort, so if you miss a bus you wanted to catch, you can go up to the Hospitality House and catch that same bus for the Hospitality House is the last stop before heading to the parks. The walk is maybe a two minute walk, very easy.

Remember that when you stay in a studio, you share the washer and dryers with the others in the studios. Only the 1,2 and 3 bedrooms have washers and dryers in the room.

Also, your room will not be cleaned. You will be left clean towels and the trash will be removed. If you stay for 8 nights, you get a full cleaning on the 4th day.

The pool towels look different from the room towels. Please don't take the pool towels to your room to supplement your room towels.

Second your recommendation. We now always request a top floor room. I don't think OKW was engineered too well as far as "ceiling noise" is concerned. Every time we stayed on a lower floor, it sounded like a herd of cattle in the room above.
