Old fashioned Christmas cards sent by snail mail or E-cards, which do you like?

I've always sent snail mail cards, but I'm considering e-cards this year because I always feel bad when I'm late getting the one sent to Australia.

What do you like getting, the real cards or electronic?

If you use E-cards, which site has the best deal?

I love reading them, seeing photos. it's the one time of year anyone actually handwrites a note (not a big fan of the typed up thrown in holiday letter).

I put the cards away with the decorations each year, pull them out while decorating to remind myself who I haven't caught up with since last year.

ecards are o.k. but it's not like dd and dh are going to sit down at my laptop and look at them whereas they will look at the newest one we've gotten in the snail mail. other issue I have is the spam blocker our internet provider uses will sometimes block senders it doesn't recognize, so I've had ecards as well as evites end up in my junk mail folder

I prefer the snail mail. There is nothing better than getting a Christmas card in the mail!!

Snail mail for both sending and receiving! There's something special about getting Christmas cards in the mail. I've been sent quite a few e-cards, unbeknownst to me though as they typically land in the spam folder only to be discovered whenever it is that I discover them.

That's a really good point as well as the issue of a spam blocker.

Now that I think more about it, I usually get the e-cards (and some are very cool) from friends without kids.

Snail mail for me too. I hang all of the cards I get in my foyer so everyone can see the recent pictures of family and friends. The kids always seem to change so much each year Can't share those if they are sitting in my inbox.

Another vote for snail mail--I always put up all the cards I get and they re a part of my holiday decor. We even travel on Christmas week and I cannot take much with me to decorate, but I always take all of the cards I have received and put them up in the rental house--it feels so homey then.

I agree totally. E-cards I usually look at, may keep for a few days and then delete. DH and kids rarely see them unless they are truly spectacular. I have a holder on the wall that displays the snail mail cards and DH and kids look at what has come in.

Old fashion give me a card that I can hold and read. I decorate my fire place with the cards and everyone in the family can read. E cards don't really mean anything to me.

for the small amount of cards i do send, they're actual cards/envelopes

like sending/receiving cards i can actually hold (as opposed to an e card)

I'm a meh to ecards, too.


I usually don't open them and I know I don't share them with anyone.


I have the last Christmas card my grandfather hand-wrote and sent to me before he passed away, and we lived 45 minutes away from each other. I can't ever see myself hanging on to an ecard for any reason.

I prefer snail mail cards. But if someone were to send an e-mail card that would be fine too, just nice to be remembered.

But, with snail mail cards I save them each year and then bring them out the following year and look through them "one more time" when new ones start coming. I keep the holiday cards in a small wicker basket on an end table in the family room. I pick them up 2-3 times during the holiday season to look at them and think about the senders. I also like to save any that are from senders that passed away over the course of the year. And I save the "special" ones from family, and ones that are photo cards too.

Totally agree. I don't open any link to an e-card. I just delete them. I love getting cards in the mail especially picture cards.

I like snail mail. It's the only time of year that I make sure I keep in contact with my friends; even if I don't see them during the year.
