I know the topiaries we have now are better in appearance than the old ones, but there isn't anywhere near the number scattered around WDW as there used to be. One of our favorite reasons to ride the monorail was to see them from above. Anyone else remember that? The recently posted dragon one was a favorite, and I always liked the elephant family.

We used to be able to find our family brick due to the topiaries but ever since they moved them - people look at us like we are crazy when trying to find it!!

Absolutely love this thread! My family thinks I'm a little crazy for getting so excited when "new" old photos are posted but I've always loved "then and now" photos especially when my own memories are fuzzy.

Keep it up all!

I posted this just the other day (I think?) from the front of the monorail approaching the Magic Kingdom in Jan 1973.

I would also note that these and the topes back then were natural, bushes lovingly trimmed to create the forms, where as the ones now are more likely to be plant matter applied to a wire frame.

Thanks!!
In 2008 who knew it would be the last time it would be around

Nobody. It was not a thing "scheduled" to be retired. Although the "official" story was "out-dated technology" (really???) one unofficial report I got was that someone forgot to put it away under cover in the off season and left out in the rain and other very material-consuming weather conditions of Florida, it was pretty much destroyed.

What is telling in any case is the decision to not replace such an iconic and major piece of the Holiday Season at Epcot.

Not a picture but I thought since we are doing "old" stuff how about this admission price list from 1983. These prices included EPCOT Center and were Park Hoppers and Non-expirational. Those were the days. That's the only way they were sold back then, I believe.
