Old Disney Park photos

That looks familiar. My dad just found these in an old photo box. This was 1984.

Couldn't sleep so did some search, and given the paucity of images or information, I can easily believe that these characters were not very popular... :)

Here's what I found.

http://disneyshawn.blogspot.com/2011/04/no-foolin.html: "...the new park would feature a cast of characters all its own, from Dreamfinder and Figment in Future World to the People of the World in World Showcase. These oversize, doll-headed characters were adapted from America on Parade, which ran at the Magic Kingdom in the mid-70s."

And as a paranthetical on another page, I grab this excerpt: "...wander through the World Showcase extravaganza and see any one of these one hundred twenty dolls of various nationalities..."

Apparently, they wandered freely and so would be seen outside their "native lands" if they even had one in World Showcase, and looking closely at the image that started this discussion and the details of the costume, I would guess it as Mexican?

Those are so scary! I don't remember ever seeing them, although I imagine I could have blocked something that would have been this traumatic! :scared1:

Hi Teresa! I didn't remember them either, but I have a pic of my teenage self next to one! We made our first visit to Epcot Thanksgiving weekend in 1982, just a few weeks after it opened. All I remember from that trip was many things kept breaking down.

Thank you, I'm glad you enjoyed it. I may have taken it from the skyway. I don't know where else I would have been high enough to take it wihout and ostacle in the way.

It's a beautiful photo. Florida sunsets are so pretty! I think you had just gotten on the Skyway at Tomorrowland. Shot is looking west, at sunset. Front-left: Auntie Gravity's, Front-center: Cosmic Ray's, Front-right: Tomorrowland Speedway.

Center of pic: East side of Castle, to the left are the 2 drawbridge towers. Right of Castle: BTMRR Rock Cliffs?

Hi Nanci!! Did you post the picture? I'd love to see that!!

We went that year around Christmastime! I don't remember too much about it, but I do remember we liked it and Heather and I got matching pink baseball caps.

Here's an oldie! This is my first visit to this new place that recently opened called The Magic Kingdom! If you look carefully, you will notice a CM with dustpan and brush... they were all over the place! As you see, we are all Navy recruits on our one day of leave, heading for the monorail, and I am very proud to say that even though it was my first visit, I thought to ask and was granted permission to ride up front! Last Sunday in Jan, or first in Feb, 1973.

Only a few years old, but something that no longer exists X 2, the Pooh playground atop the "lake" that used to be 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.

Again, back to 1973, as one approached the monorail station in front of the Magic Kingdom, to the left, now the location of so many bus stations, were several topiaries.

So, I was just looking at some of these pictures with my 10 year old daughter. She said WHY do the pictures look that way?

I said they are just old pictures and that's the way the pictures have aged. She said, "so you mean the WORLD didn't look like that?":confused3

I guess she thought years ago the world was fuzzy with little streaks and dots all over it.:lmao:
