Finally got through to the person I booked our holiday at Virgin with, we have not been able to do OLCI, just says you have booked extra leg room seats or an exit row, which neither of them apply to us, then spoke to virgin atlantic whom came up with some spiel about it was the way our booking was done via virgin holidays, which is where the original virgin representative comes in, he delved around for us and cannot believe what he has just told us, the plane is overbooked and no one can do online check in for the flight, but our original seats are still held in our name and everyone will have to get to the airport early and do it at one of the self book in terminals, Unbelievable and what a complete and utter mess the start of this holiday has become. Presuming he is not lying that is to fob me off, anyone else booked in for 2morrows flight.:scared1::scared1::scared1:

We had something similar happen last year. Due to a system upgrade, nobody was able to do OLCI for Glasgow departures. It eventually appeared on the website and I figured that since not everyone gets to the airport early it would be a walk in the park. It was utter chaos. We arrived 5 hours, yes that is 5, early to check in and there were a whole lot of folk already standing there. At least they have confirmed that your seats have still been held for you. We had pre-selected our seats and we got the ones we had asked for. I'm sure you'll be fine. Just get there early and then go have a nice breakfast/lunch once you've checked in.

Have a safe flight and a wonderful time :goodvibes

o.m.g!! i cannot believe that happens y would you sell more seats than you have???? i admit im very naive with holidays my brother in law and sis tend to do all the booking and organising but this xmas we r on r own!!! :scared1:

i dont know what i would do if this happened to us!! i cannot understand y an airline would treat customers so badly!! :headache:

hope all goes well with your holiday! x

and with people already in line??!??!?!?!?!?!?!? :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

the more we pay, the worse the service....it just gets worse and worse and worse.....

time to start taking a boat...

There was problems with OLCI when we travelled last year. I ended up ringing customer services who tried to do it for me, several times, and in the end just said, 'you'll have to check in at the airport,' but couldn't give me a reason as to why I couldn't OLCI. It was a good job we'd booked a hotel the night before we flew.

Upon getting to the airport and trying the kiosk check in, it still wouldn't check us in, turns out our seats hadn't been allocated, still don't know why customer services couldn't tell me this. Anyway it worked in our favour as we got emergency exits seats, at no extra cost, with lots of lovely leg room, and I actually preferred them to the standard economy seat.

We weren't the only ones who had trouble doing OLCI, I was talking to a family in front, who were told they couldn't do it because they were travelling with children, yet they had used it on previous trips :confused3

Thank goodness for twilight checkin ! and the Gatwick Hilton!

oh yes I second that one! We normally get to Gatwick by about 2 o clock the previous day to check in if we haven't done it on line already. Certainly takes the stress out of it all. Oh and I was told that they ALWAYS overbook a flight as there are alway people that do not make it. :confused3 We once had no breakfast on a flight home because they don't put enough on for the whole flight because often people don't want any!!!! On another note we have NEVER had any probs with Virgin, I still think they are way better then the other uk flights into MCO. :)

It is normal for them to over book - in fact one time they were asking people to be paid to go on a later flight. We did that and got money back. It didnt inconvenience us because we werent doing anything when we got to Orlando that night.

But if you get there early you shouldnt have a problem, it will be the people who get there later!:scared1:

As Jtlover says, it is common because believe it or not, there are almost always some no-shows.

Yep, five hours and about 10 minutes early. Clearly I was not the only one who had thought to arrive early. By the time they opened the check in desks an hour later the place as a mass of people :scared1: Add to that, my DD was picked for the random security check so we had to go early to wait to be called for her search :rolleyes1

Regarding the boat .... I think we start working on that WDW Earways airline we spoke about :lmao:

It is stressful and always more so when you sit waiting and knowing that there is no telling how it will go until you get there. That said, you should not encounter the same hassles we had. Servis Air had just taken over doing the check ins for VA when we flew and the staff were not familiar with the new system (so we had to all re-do our API's at check in ) but that was nearly a year ago and they have had plenty of time to familiarise themselves with the system, which even at that time, had rolled out across the major English airports already. :goodvibes

just spoke to virgin atlantic personally, the flight is overbooked, so I have just offered to stand down and release up 4 seats for them as long as there are seats on the afternoon flight and we get something out of it, watch this space they`ll get back to me shortly.:confused3:surfweb:

unfortunately not getting bumped I`m afraid, they have just got back to me, they`re not actually overbooked, they have the exact numbers, but 2 too many in economy, and 2 too less in PE, some couple is going to be very lucky 2morrow, but all this will cause mayhem at the airport 2morrow, just as well the bump wasn`t on as well, there`s no flight apprently on a monday afternoon, phew

I am flying in September with virgin and feel bit nervous now after reading what has happened. I will be on to them first thing to see if i can check in and confirm my flight seats.

Shali.

unfortunately you can only try OLCI 24 to 2 hrs before flight, this is the same for your return, you can do your return OLCI at DTD when you check your bags in or online if you have a connection

Nipperlocko - its awful when things dont go to plan.....i think we can almost feel your panic in this post! I am sure things will go ok (i know this probably doesn't help any!) I hope you all have a wonderful holiday xx

thanks for that, once we`re at the airport and on the flight all will be ok, I notice your from winsford, we`re meeting the bil and family from winsford whilst out there, they went on friday, he lives on fairways lol:cool1:

Personally I don't rate Virgin at all! I really love the different American airlines, much better - the only way we go with Virgin is if it is cheaper - which it is mostly not!
