We're new to DVC and are members are SSR. For April we're staying at OKW 2 adults and one child (12). Would like to know what people think of OKW. It looks nice on the website. Are they're usually lots of other kids there.

First off welcome to the DIS!

We tried OKW for the firm time last May and enjoyed it. The rooms are much bigger than at our Boardwalk home and the area is nice and quiet. We saw a number of kids there. Less than I've seen at say All Stars or the Magic Kingdom resorts, but about what I've seen at Boardwalk.

It is a great resort and I think you'll enjoy it.

I'm sure others who have stayed there more often than us will be able to give feedback as well.

While I haven't seen many kids there, I have never used the pools there...and that is where the kids would most likely be, especially with the new slide. It is a very kid friendly place, not at all stuffy or formal.

I think you and your child will love it.

What do you think of BWV? What are your favorite standard and preferred views. I am waiting for ROFR to pass and then I will hopefully be an owner there...but I've never been inside! So do tell!

One of my favorite topics! OKW is a lovely resort – very laid-back, relaxing and relatively quiet. It is very much a little neighborhood with beautiful vegetation and plantings. I do see kids there when we visit from infants to teens. The rooms are exceptionally spacious. There are “quiet” pools in each area as well as a larger pool with a new slide (a giant sandcastle). All the pool areas have hot tubs as well. We see lots of families riding the tandem bikes around the complex (there are wide sidewalks). Olivia’s is the full service restaurant with great meals and everything can be ordered to-go. There are boats for rental and also a resort boat that travels between OKW, SSR and DTD every hour starting at noon. There is a general store which sells OKW-logo merchandise as well as sundries and food (soda, beer, bagels, snacks, some frozen foods, some packaged lunch meats, cereal, etc.). I think you will enjoy your stay there. We love it! :earboy2:

there aren't as many kids here as the values or the moderates.

but there are definitely some kids here.

going to the slide would probably be the best bid for your kids to meet them.

My kids have always found other kids to pal around with over the years. The pools and game room areas are good places to start. They also have programs/activities geared towards kids on the resort. OKW is a terrific resort. Have a great stay !

OKW is a very pretty resort. The sidewalks have crushed sea shells (it really feels like Florida). The landscaping is lush and the main pool area is extra nice now with the new slide. You'll love it.

The slide really looks like a giant sandcastle, we went to OKW just for a look earlier this month. I'm sure it'll draw kids to it as long as it's warm enough to use. It was very chilly when we were there, no one was in the pool.

The units are huge, and the restaurant is great. The kids will like the sandcastle slide. We like the neighborhood pool areas almost better than the main pool, because they are quieter. The other plus is that you really aren't that far from DTD either. IF you happen to get a unit in the South Point area, the walkway will take you there on foot in about 10-15 minutes.

We have just come back from a 12 night stay at OKW. DMIL, DFIL, DH, me, DD(11), DD(4). We had a 2 bed, which was plenty big enough for us. The IL's had their own wet bar to make breakfast, giving us all a bit of privicy first think in the morning. The kids love this resort the best, it is our home resort, for the space and beauty. We have stayed at all the resorts except SSR. I love parking outside our unit, the big accommadation, the space in the resort. The girls love the pools and prefer the quiet pools to the larger one. You will have great time.

Don't make the same mistake we made the first time we stayed, we thought the paths laid out through the golf course were footpaths! Well after just a few mins we realised we were not meant to be there!

Thanks for all your wonderful comments. We look forward to going there.

I am a new OKW owner and will be making my first trip in July. I just wanted to say hi to a fellow resident from the great town of Tewksbury!!!

By the way, I have a friend who owns at BWV but stays at OKW all the time. He went their once to save points but now he considers everything else a disappointment compared to OKW and regrets not purchasing a resale there as opposed to buying BWV through Disney. He has two young kids and they love it there. And it has only gotten better with the addition of the new pool slide.

These replys are nice to hear. We will hopefully be staying at OKW for the first time next February. We, too, will have a, oh I almost said 12 year old, but by then he will be 13. Oh no, a teenager. LOL. I do not know how much swim time we will get in in Feb., but it does seem with the addition of the new slide and the bigger rooms, that more families will give it a try.

Have fun on your trip and I am sure you will all enjoy it there!! :flower:

LOL....were you having to out-run those golf carts ? ;)

Yes we jumped into the bushes as we saw one speeding towards us! Its a shame that at certain times of day walkers or bikers could use them. I can dream as I don't like golf!
