OKW

I'm reminded of a couple of my favorite Richyams sayings:

There are those whose say OKW is the only TRUE DVC Resort.

And that studios at Boardwalk are convenient because they are so small and you can sit on the balcony and reach in to grab a beer from the minifridge without getting up from your chair.

Rest in Peace, Richyams.

LOL
Thanks for posting these. I thought of these same Richyams comments while reading this thread. He was one of a kind.

If you're traveling with a wheelchair, be sure to book a handicap accessible unit. That will guarantee you either first floor or an elevator building. Buildings 62. 63 and 64 are the only building with elevators, as they were built after the original sales office was removed, and after changes to the ADA. If you can't do stairs, but do not need a handicap unit, be sure and explain the situation to Member Services. I generally call when I am in that situation. I do usually just request a first floor unit, it is usually granted, but not always. But I can make do with stairs if I have to, unless I'm traveling with someone in a scooter or wheelchair.
Unfortunately, when I said I needed first floor because I had a scooter, MS insisted it was "just" a request, not a guarantee. I've heard too many horror stories in the last few years of people with scooters who get upper floor and can't change.
Although I've always gotten my requested first floor, we just started reserving a HA unit. As the average age of the OKW owner increases, more of us need HA, and I predict that sooner or later DVC will have to address the lack of elevator issue.

I feel the same way - OKW is one of my absolute favorite resorts but I need an elevator and don’t like 1st floor rooms so it’s a no go for me 😩

We're staying at Old Key West in January for the first time. We usually stay at Boardwalk. What do we need to know about OKW? Any thoughts for ideas would be very helpful. Thanks.
Make sure you become familiar with the bus stops and the order. My personal recommendation is to book somewhere near the first two stops so you're always guaranteed a spot on the buses.

If we take Uber/Lyft to or from a park - will they drop us off at our building or HH?

I've used lyft, not a Minnie Van, when you reserve the car, the app shows the resort map Select your building on the map and it will pick you up from and take you to your building. Very convenient for resort to resort dining reservations. Reserve a bit in advance and it is usually a cheaper rate.
