We were able to get a 1 bedrom villa at OKW (had been waiting for a 1bedroom to become available) and I was wondering what your opinions of the resort are? I have read some reviews mentioning a lack of decent housekeeping, which I can deal with. but how are the rooms? Are they old and worn or in decent condition? What are the best buildings to request (ie: closest to bus stop/pool/food court)? Are there elevators in the buildings?

Thanks.

The resort does somewhat show its age, but nothing like some posts have made it out to be. We felt it was very nice and plan on staying there again. It was not worn out, just maybe some of the fixtures and some of the decor dates it some. I wouldn't worry about the condition.

You should have requested your room preference at the time you booked. Buildings 1-29 do not have access to a bathroom, except through the bedrooms. Buildings 30 and above have this access. Buildings 62-64 have elevators, the others do not. No real bad place in OKW. If you are farther away from the main area, just hop any bus. The Hospitality House is the last stop. To go back, it is a short walk to the first bus stop at Peninsular Rd.

If you read the threads, even the newer resorts such as SSR get bad room and housekeeping reviews. I wouldn't worry too much about it. We loved it and look forward to staying there again.

map of OKW for reference.

request a building near the hospitality house if you are interested in being near the main pool/olivia's.

OKW may be older but it has its fans.

We have been dvc members since 1994 with many many visits to OKW. I have never had a bad experience in any way. We have stayed in almost all the areas and love the Miller Road area because it is quiet, but within a short walk of main area. We love the quiet pools, boat rentals and the size of the villas. We have not stayed in the newer buildings with elevators(previous post), but visited our friend who were in GV and he has Polio and uses a scooter so we took the elevator to the 2nd floor entrance to their GV. We have spent the last 3 xmas weeks at OKW and are returning this year. We just like the atmosphere. We have always ahd great CM and housekeeping for us hasn't been an issue(we are only there for 5 nights usually so only have T&T),the rooms have been in good shape with no problems(except the lack of tea kettle last time). Minor maintenance things like missing remote or utensils have always been addressed very quickly. Others may have had negative experiences, but every resort will have negative posts. We will never stay at BWV again because of CM's attitudes(multiple, not jsut one), but others swear by the resort. I think the odds of you having a pleasant experience at OKW are high.

We have stayed at OKW too many times to count, and out of all those times, only once did we have a unit that was less than desired, and that one was due for rehab after we checked out of it.

I have only had difficulty with housekeeping there once, and that was a communication issue because the housekeeper didn't speak English. The soap from the previous occupant was left in the shower, and when I called to ask that the shower be recleaned, they instead came in and replaced all the soaps, but still left the old soap in the shower dish. I called againk the same thing happened, so I just cleaned it myself. The next day I encountered the housekeeper for our unit, and then I understood what the problem was....no comprehende English!

There are only three buildings with elevators - 62, 63 and 64 - which were added on after the resort was finished (they tore down the Commodore House - Sales Office and added these three). They get requested a lot, so prepare yourself to hike up some steps. Unless you need a first floor or other handicapped accessible room.
