Tell me again where the closest Publix is. Someone had mentioned that there was a new one opening close to OKW. We will be leaving right after Thanksgiving.

The closest one is about 10 minutes away. If you exit OKW to the right, make a right at the end of the road (just past Saratogas entrance) and then a left at the light for Hotel Plaza Blvd (just past the fire station), follow that down to 535 (2nd light) and make a right... Publix is at the end of 535 (it dead ends at 192).

There is also a Winn Dixie and a Goodings closer, for Goodings you would go straight instead or turning right onto 535 and it is in the Crossroads plaza.

For Winn Dixie you would make a left at that light (at 535) and it will be on the right just past the next light.

Goodings was bought out by Publix but they choose to keep the Crossroads as Goodings I think maybe that is what you had heard about as I don't know of any new Publix that is closer (but I could be wrong)...

There is a new Publix over by the Premium Outlet Mall, but it's nearly impossible to get back from it at night. I went over on a Sat night after we checked in (about 8:30PM) and it took me about 45 minutes to get back. I got stuck in the traffic leaving the mall and then trying to get back to 535 and over to Hotel Plaza Blvd.

I've been to both the Winn Dixie and the Publix, we think Winn Dixie has better prices and is easier to get to. Sign up for their shopper card for selected weekly discounts.

I love the Publix by the Premium Outlet Mall. Instead of trying to get back via 535 go out of the Publix parking lot by turning left to the traffic light on I Drive. Turn right onto I Drive and go to the end. Turn right at the end and go straight into WDW. You will be on Epcot Blvd. Follow the signs for OKW. Easy, little or no traffic at anytime that I have gone that way. You avoid the snarl by the Crossroads shopping center and those restaurants and the snarl by DTD. Yes this route mybe longer but it is easier most of the time by avoiding the traffic. And I have done it at all hours. (Someone always needs something at an odd hour!)

Here's a map I made just for this:

We're just back from our first trip home to OKW. We had limited time to stock up on groceries so we decided to use the Crossroads Goodings. I would never shop there again unless no other options existed. Their prices were very expensive and the check out lines were long. Just my two cents worth!!

Just for the sake of anyone who might be interested. The brand new Super Target opened within the last couple of weeks on 192 going towards Kissimmee. It it pretty close to WDW.

I forgot about the one on by the outlets and to think I love going to that Outback Steakhouse ;) That is true when leaving that Publix exit to the left and head to I-Drive instead of fighting the "tourist" traffic :) Right on I-Drive, Right at the light (where the road ends) and keep going straight the first entrance on WDW property (after the welcome to Disney Sign ) is the road where the Lighthouse is for OKW, go straight and make a right at the 3rd light :) There hardly any traffic going this way...

Oh and I hate that Goodings too RuthNPaul... way to expensive but hey they've got carpeting and Sushi :p j/k

We have to agree with you guys on the "Goodings" prices. Wow, it turned out to be cheaper to get our DVC discount at the store at SSR then to buy milk, eggs and butter from Goodings.

I'll have to agree with Debbie, I think Winne Dixie is the closest and one of the cheapest. Esp. if you get their discount card.

Thanks for the neat directions. Now I won't have to sit in traffic any more trying to come back from Publix. I used to live in Alabama and didn't like W-D then. They always were dirty. I get the same impression at LBV. I'll stick with Publix or Goodings.

Funny thing, I tried to get some Powerade at Publix and Goodings. And neither one had much at all. Shelves and shelves of Gatorade, but almost no Powerade. That's what they give out at the Marathon, so my husband is using that for training. Just seemed funny. But since Gatorade was developed in Florida by the UF, it does kind of make sense.
