Hi, we're hoping to visit from the 1st to 17th December for our first real DVC visit with our own points :), we're from the UK so longer trips required.

So I successfully booked what I was planning as our second week at BLT our home resort (not enough points to book all at BLT yet lol) and then was hoping to book a studio at OKW for the week earlier at 7 months (from what I had read there was always availability there :)) but it looks like the 6th and 7th December are already booked and I think waitlist only.

I know it's a difficult question to answer lol but what are peoples thoughts on whether the dates would become available as I could rent points now (banking the rest of mine) and try and book the other days and ask for a waitlist for the couple of days. My alternative would be to get SSR booked up now by renting some points as I'm now wondering if that will also be gone at 7 months too.

Thanks all

Could just be people walking their reservation, especially if it's mid week days you can't get. Book what you can, waitlist but stalk the site daily at 1pm UK time.

I don't think people are walking as they would have released those dates by now seeing as of right now you can book out to 12/29/26.

Early December is a popular time for DVC there is only one resort that currently has those dates available in a studio.

@hallanthony I would either rent points with the board sponsor, Davids or the Rental board to lock in the remaining resort that has availability.

Alternatively you could call member services and see if they could book OKW on Cash for you. Sometimes there is a DVC discount but not always.
If at 7 months you are able to grab something you can then cancel the reservation through Member Services or modify it by a few nights if you are only able to pick up a few nights on points. Also remember you can buy up to 24 one time use points at $20 USD but those work only for bookings at the 7 month mark.

First week of Dec is the highest DVC demand week of the year at WDW. Makes Easter week look like a slow off-season. There are some rooms open at 7-months out for the summer months that disappear at 11-months out from any start date in the first week of Dec. And as you have already seen, even OKW studios can start disappearing at 11-months out and are likely to be filled for all or most of that first week before 7-months out. And thus, in making a decison as to what to do now, you should assume it likely that OKW will be full, or close to it, for that week before 7-months out.

Yes, there are walkers, but most of those who may have been walking past those early Dec dates have already done that by now. Walking is something usually used by members to get one to a reservation that may be otherwise difficult to get at 11-months out, meaning most who are actually walking now are walking through late Dec 2026 dates to eventually get a reservation in Jan 2027 or after.

And yes, even SSR studios have a real risk of being filled for some or all of the days in the first week of Dec before 7-months out. Ultimately, your only chance for anything at 7-months out for first week of Dec may be a waitlist, and though there is always some possibility of a waitlist coming through for SSR or OKW, getting a full week has less chance of succeeding than just seeking a couple days.

Suggestions made above about renting now something for the week are likely something you should consider if it is important to you to actually have a reservation for that first week of Dec.

To add, renting is only going to work if you can find someone who is offering those dates as a confirmed reservation if you are seeing them gone.

Thanks everyone, I think I'll look at renting (xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx) details removed by mod.

Another thought just crossing my mind now would be to cash buy the couple of days at OKW and get the available days at OKW rented now, though will need to do some maths to see how that works out but probably will still be better off staying at SSR coat wise.

We did a 3 resort split stay last year and my wife said 2 is enough for this next trip otherwise I may have looked at some at both resorts and finish at BLT

If it were me, I would book the BLT nights abutting your currently-reserved week as a separate reservation, booking as many nights as I could with the points I have. I'd make a backup cash reservation for the week anywhere at WDW, booked through Disney so that you can cancel it. (That could be through Member Services, or just any old room.)

Then, at the seven month mark, I would try to modify my BLT booking to some other DVC resort, waitlisting whatever I could not grab.

I would not rent a DVC reservation from some other owner if I had points to use at seven months. Those rented reservations are usually non-refundable, and the waitlist has a good chance of turning something over, especially if you are looking at a room category with many rooms. You might want to waitlist one night at a time, filling in as you go, to maximize your chances.

Book your home resort now so you have something. At 7 months a lot of shuffling happens, even in early December. A lot of folks who own at OKW are booking it and hoping to get Poly or something else at 7 months for example. So you can hopefully trade out, I guess your aim is to save some points. That's how I'd play it.

Unfortunately I've not got many points at the moment, just the one smallish contract (at the moment lol) so I've already booked what I can at BLT and was planning on moving a couple of nights over to 4 at OKW and then renting points on here for the rest of that part of the stay or maybe have bought another resale contract by then lol
