OKW studio question.....

Small Fridge, microwave and coffee maker. There is also a sink. All in a little hallway (and across from closet) between bathroom & bedroom.

Cyn

There is also a toaster.

Paper plates, plastic spoons, and you can request more, as needed. I met someone who asked housekeeping for some containers to store cut-up fruit in, and she got them. I believe just one packet of coffee is provided, and you will have to pay if you request more, so bring you own, if you want this.

While the studio will not have it's own washer/dryer, there are a few complimentary ones near the pools. I bring a few laundry tablets and dryer sheets.

The refrig is an 'under the counter' model, not one of the small 'cubes'. Don't count on the very small freezer keeping anything really frozen. It's great to have a refrig for beverages and to bring back leftovers from those huge Disney meals!

Some of the studios have the lighter bleached oak cabinets, while others have darker wood cabinets. The darker wood cabinets make the small kitchenette located in a hallway, appear even smaller. Maybe request one of the newer buildings. We have only had the lighter oak cabinets in the buildings that were the last ones built, all other studios have been the darker cabinets. The mini kiichenette at OKW, is small and closed in to begin with, and the dark cabinets make it appear even more so. Amazing what a color difference can do to help with opening up a very small space.

 HUH? I have stayed in units all over OKW, and they ALL have light pickled wood cabinets that I have seen. I have stayed in the newest buildings (64) and one of the oldest (13) as well as others all over the resort, and they are all light pickled wood.

Don't know what to say, except that we have stayed in 3 studios at OKW and the 2 studios that were in the original buildings had dark colored cabinets. These cabinets made an already small and cramped space appear even more so. We have stayed in a studio once in the newer buildings at OKW and those cabinets were a much lighter wood and also a much better quality of cabinet. This made the kitchenette area seem less cramped, in our opinion. If all the studios at OKW:"ALL have light pickled wood cabinets ", then we must have had very dirty cabinets in our first 2 stays in an OKW studio, because these cabinets were more of a coffee color than any verison of light pickled wood cabinets, we have ever seen.

Just read on another thread that for $5 that OKW and other DVC resorts will send you a grocerylist and deliver your groceries to your room. It stated to get the number from the person you are renting from? Is this correct? If so has anyone used this service and have the number to get more information on this?

Here is a picture of the OKW studio that shows the color of the kitchenette area to the left.

Sorry, but it looks like pickled wood to me.

I forgot to mention in my above post, that I do think the OKW kitchnette area is smaller than the other DVC resorts. I think when the resort was first built, they were expecting most folks do do as they do with most timeshares and would want a full kitchen most of the time. I don't think they ever expected so many would be looking at studios.

Small, dorm-size fridge, coffeemaker, microwave, toaster(I think), paper goods, plastic utensils.

The cabinets in your picture are a light wood and they are the ones we had in the 3rd OKW studio we stayed in. The cabinets in the first 2 studios were NOT the same color. They were more of a coffee color and also had seen much wear and tear. The kitchen cabinet under the sink, at one of the studios, had the hinges broken on the door and obvious water damage from the sink because the wood at the bottom of the cabinet was buckled and water stained. Both of these studios were in the oldest buidlings at OKW; the lighter kitchen cabinets were in one of the newest buildings. That has been our experience, and it was at least 7 years ago, that we stayed in a studio in an older building. Obviously you have not stayed in the same studios in the same time period, as we did. I am confused as to why this is such a major concern for you?????

I can't speak for Diane, but as far as I'm concerned, as an OKW owner I would hope my dues were going towards the upkeep of things like "broken-hinged, water stained cabinets". I'd be interested in pics if you have them as well. I've been an owner there for 5 years and stayed in bldgs 33,43,46 & 62. Never have I had worn, broken or dark cabinets. Now granted, you said this was 7 years ago so I'm thinking these repairs/upgrades have been made. What are considered the "old" buildings at OKW ---just curious ?

Every resort needs to have maintenence. Seven years ago would have meant that OKW studios would have been about six years old. Maybe when they were built the cabinets were darker. As far as the water stains, people are sometimes careless when they are away on vacation. Maybe these units have been renovated in the last seven years and are now the lighter wood.[

Sorry, but I do not have pictures of OKW studio's kitchenette's cabiinets to share. We take pictures of our friends and family enjoying WDW, of the fireworks & flower displays, new rides. but not of the villas, unless it is a picture of us in the villa. The cabinets in the OKW studio never seemed be a picture that we wanted, so we never took one; that I can recall. If we did, it did not make it into our photo albums, and after 7 years, those pictures are long gone.
I still do not understand the concern over the color of the cabinets. We did have darker colored cabinets in 2 OKW studios. Can not see what the problem is. I can not believe this is developing into such a big issue!!
We do think the lighter colored cabinets make the kitchenette area appear brighter and more open. The cabinets were in need of repair and I am sure that has been done in the past 7 years. The rest of the studio was the typical OKW studio, and was just fine.

???We've been members of DVC at OKW since 1993 and have never seen anything except the light colored cabinets at OKW???
We are usually in a one bedroom, two bedroom dedicated or lock off, so we usually only see the studio part of a lock off.

Well, it looks like I wasn't the only OKW owner who has never seen dark cabinets in the studios! I do agree that the pickling on some of them is lighter than others, and last December, we were in a unit where the master bath had a part of the cabinetry replaced, and the new piece was a bit lighter than the old one. I suspected it was a difference in the pickling/stain product they used. This WAS in one of the older buildings (13), but I would hardly call the wood brown. It was still the light pickled wood.
