okw rooms redone?

I am confused..... Are these the new beds or old beds that are so uncomfortable?? Hate to think that the new ones are bad. Hoping just the old ones haven't been replaced yet! Anyone know which ones we are talking about?

It's the old ones. We like the new ones much better. They are still firm, but they don't give me the bachache the old ones did.

We have stayed in OKW at least 12 times and the beds in bldg 13 were the worst. The first nite I slept on the sleeper, and ds used the cushions from the sleeper. DH and DD suffered. The next day housekeeping brought us numerous foam pads for under the sheets. I had three of them on my side of the king and I finally slept the rest of the vacation. I hope they were not new beds. We love OKW but may have to try other DVC resorts if all the beds get replaced with these mattresses.
Does anyone know how the beds at AKV are. Are they very hard?

I asked about beds at other resort after our Jan trip and someone told me that AK has new pillow top mattresses. I didn't realize that I had become a bed snob until we stayed at ASSp. We bought a new bed in Jan 08 and it is heaven. I didn't sleep all week when we were in Dis, the bed was terrible. I told DH no more values if this is what the beds are like. I have a feeling it will be only DVCs from now on...hopefully it'll convince DH to buy.

Well, we stayed in #2631 a few weeks ago (3/15-3/22) and I couldn't really tell what was renovated except that all of the heating/cooling units are new. A fair warning, there are only two air temperatures with these new units, warm, or after they run for about 30 seconds, freezing cold.

As to the beds, well, our King size was hard as a rock...

Tidefan, since you were just there and the rooms were going through a refurb I am disappointed that the new beds are hard and tell me more about the heating and cooling problems. The air conditioning was always great at OKW, no motion sensors and it always seemed to work well. Is the new system similiar to the ones at BCV? Thanks in advance.

I know...this is what concerns me as well!

Yep, Beds were hard. As to the heating/cooling, there weren't problems, per se, other than the units ran too good. It seemed like every time the A/C came on it went to about 50 degrees in less than a minute. They were cooling way too good. Then at night, you would sweat because they weren't running. I didn't check for sure, but we thought that they may have put motion sensors in with these units...

I'm headed to OKW May 9th and now I am worried about beds so much that I am shipping a box with a 2 1/2 inch mattress topper in it just in case.

LOL! This thread certainly points out how "picky" we have all gotten. It used to be a bed was a bed and you didn't complain as long as it was a place to lay your head. We would have all made terrible pioneers!

:)We stayed last Oct. at OKW (home resort) in a 2br and a 1br near the Turtle Pond area. The mattresses were very uncomfortable. The king in the master br actually slid around. I did write a letter to Member Services when we returned complaining about them and if I had it to do over again I would complain while I was there. I did get a call back and, again told them that they really needed to replace the mattresses more often. I got the usual response thanking me for my input, etc., etc. We are going back next year with the same setup so I will be following closely those posts about which buildings have been refurbished. I looked back to try and remember what building we were in but could find nothing and my memory doesn't go back that far:rotfl:!

The bed we slept on in January was unfathomably hard. Sleeping on the ground...or in a covered wagon....would have been more comfortable.

We wouldn't have made terrible pioneers we would have just invented nice pillow top mattresses much sooner than they were. :lmao:

Is anyone complaining about this?? This sounds like more than a few people complaining about something little. And the scary part is that it sounds like it is the new beds they are putting in the resort. I am concerned that this will be the beds they will be putting in at BLT and AKV. Anyone else scared that Disney has contracted with a "hard as a rock" bed manufacturer?? I sure hope people are complaining at OKW so they can fix the problem before they refurbish all the rooms there.
