Hello...just a quick note about our father/son(12) trip to OKW.
Room location: We took what was available at 10:00am when we arrived. Because we were doing a studio and not worried about room or location, we didn't mind that we were on Miller's Road. However, I would not recommend it to light sleepers as the noise from Bonnet Creek Pkwy was evident at all hours.
Room decor/cleanliness: The building we were in has not gone through renovation so decor was older. However, our room was clean and everything in working order.
Resort appearance: Beautiful, clean and very relaxing. The lush vegetation was gorgeous.
Recreation: We played ping pong, basketball, tennis and shuffleboard. We also rented a sea raycer for a nice cruise down the canal to Port Orleans and back. We swam only at the themed pool and found an available chair at any time of day. We were very pleased with the amount of available recreation opportunities.
Dining/refreshments: The bar and counter service area was quaint. I liked how everything was accessible outside and just a short walk from the pool. We ate at Olivias for breakfast one morning and dinner one evening. The mahi mahi and new york strip were tasty. Our server John was excellent in knowledge and attitude.
Resort guests: It seemed many of the guests were grandparents with their children and young grandkids. This was a pleasant surprise because that is how we envision our DVC will be used in years ahead. Also, there was no rush about and everyone seemed so relaxed and friendly.
Resort magic: When we arrived and were walking to our room, another guest who spotted our check-in folder gave a hearty 'welcome home'. My son was very surprised that a guest would do that which made us both feel good. After dropping off our stuff in the room, we went to get lunch at the counter service (Goods-to-Go) and before having a chance to pay, a guest who had checked out that day paid for our lunch with leftover CS credits on his meal plan. Needless to say, we felt like the magic was definitely still at WDW. It also was a very good experience for my son to witness and we talked about the need to pay it forward in life - which he did later with a couple fastpasses we weren't going to use.
Overall, we had a great stay at OKW and though it being the most aged of the DVC resorts, it was in very nice condition.
The parks last week were fairly crowded - but we went to rope drops and got out as the crowds were rolling in - which allowed us to enjoy the resort.
Other than a fairly wet afternoon/evening one day, the weather was beautiful - not too hot and not too cool.
I would certainly recommend a stay at OKW...but for us we'd do the Hospitality House booking next time as we spent all of our resort time there.
