OKW Questions: Never Been There....

MY DD wants to stay at OKW. This is primarily going to be more a more relaxing by pool/resort and less park vacation. We have never stayed there before so I just have a couple of questions:

  • If we are doing more pool days, should I request hospitality house and what does that actually mean as far as proximity and room views (we will be in a studio)?
  • Is there a refill station for our mugs?
  • Am I correct in understanding that there is no counter service option? And what do you do about meals during day at while at resort and hanging at pool (I don't usually cook or prepare meals while on vacation)?
Any information would be great since these answers will help me decide if we should just keep our SSR reservation or switch to OKW.

Thanks

Mimmie :)

There is a refillable mug station right next to the pool where you can also get a counter service meal. I would however recommend that you use your counter service at Downtown Disney. Wolfgang Puck Express is EXCELLENT and so is Earl of Sandwich. You can take the boat there right from the dock near the pool. We have stayed in a studio on 3 seperate occasions. We really loved it!

Depends on the age of your daughter. We were right next to the South Point pool last month and it was delightful. Anytime we felt like going for a swim, we were out there. I think it was the most time I've spent at a resort pool on a trip. We also went to TL three times on our trip, too.

So if you just want to lie out at the pool, relax in the water, choose a neighborhood pool. If you want the slide and activities, choose the themed pool.

Since you are staying in a studio, I suppose you will need to worry about dining options more, but I don't think that really matters for which part of the resort you stay in. There are 4 pools at OKW. The main one is the only one with a slide though. All 4 pools have play areas and hot tubs, but only the main pool and the Turtle Pond pool have snack/sandwich counters. That being said, ANY bus will take you to the hospitality house area. It is the last bus stop, so all buses stop there before exiting the resort, and there is also an internal bus that makes the loop around the OKW property.

Another thing to consider is the proximaty to DTD. If you are near the South Point pool, you will also be a quick 10 minute walk from DTD and all the snack options there.

Just adding my thumbs up to the DTD plan for meals. There are several great options there for CS, and just a pleasant boat trip away.

I might add one thing whcih may or may not be an issue for you. If I were to go to OKW again, I would definitely try to get a downstairs unit. For many folks I am sure it's no biggie, but for us, it was kind of problematic.

Just a thought....

I am loving all the comments.

My DD will be 20 and will just be finishing up her second year at college. So for us this will be the start of a yearly mother/daughter bonding vacaton as she will be away and just returning home when we go next year.

My DS and I would take these trips when he was in college. But he just graduated this year we all (DH, DS,DD and myself) did a 2 week WDW college graduation trip which also included a 4 night DCL. So next year I am looking forward to the same wonderful type of post school year vacation with just DD (minus the DCL)

DD likes more activity (as well as probably the pool slide) so I am thinking near Hospitality House might be best. Is there any building that I should request??

Thank you

I think your daughter will love the tropical feel of OKW. The pool parties are at 3:00pm. The piped in music really puts you in a festive mood. The counter service has tables with umbrellas outside to add to the sultry lush surroundings and the palm trees are exquisite.

Here are some other things to do at OKW

Keep in mind that Hospitality House is not a request, it is a booking category. You have to book it when you make your reservation. If it's not available you will have to book a regular OKW reservation and can make a request elsewhere. Because folks use to like to request HH, it became a specific booking category (like a preferred view is for other resorts).
