OKW Member Update

We attended the Member Update this morning at OKW. DVC guide Judy Kaufman gave the presentation. She gave a brief overview of all of the current DVC properties, plus comments about all of the non-DVC options.

Of course, time was available afterwards for those wishing to purchase add-on contracts!

Judy mentioned that the "extra" BWV points originally totalled 100,000 and, after 3 weeks of sales, there are 40,000 remianing. No word whether any will be available for purchase by new members. Some Use Years are already gone.

She also suggested that BCV will sell out sometime this summer. No mention was made about SSR.

Everyone who was attending their first Update got a white DVC member logo ball cap. There were also some DVC mouse-pads and few other logo items. Door prize drawings were held for a DVC water bottle and DVC beach tote bag. Everyone in attandance got a DVC pin lanyard and 10 Year Anniversary pin.

...and a good time was had by all!

OKW is over 90% capacity this week and will likely fill more towards the weekend. Temps are still around 90 and we're getting a thunderstorm right now.

Thanks Doc for the info. I wonder if they will ever get rid of all of those 10 year pins. Seem like they were giving them out last year and on the cruise ships.

At last weeks meeting at OKW(13th April)Dave gave the presentation and said they are moving the DVC salesroom and showrooms from Boardwalk to Saratogo springs,therefore all use years are available as they are releasing around 80.000pts.for this resort,he also said it sounded like a lot of points but they would sell out fast.

Member Updates are every Tuesday at OKW and every Thursday at BWV. Both are held at Community Hall at the respective resort. They begin at 8:00am and last no more than an hour. Continental breakfast is provided and members from other DVC resorts are welcome to attend. (Since VWL and BCV have no Community Hall, there are no updates at these resorts.)

I've always thought it strange that this is mostly a sales meeting run by the sales department and it's not run by management staff. It really has so much more potential to educate members than is being offered.

The last update I went to, they were giving away the hats as prizes for DVC trivia questions. Thanx to this board, I got a hat!

Now that I have more time! Most timeshare and all I've been to, do an hour or more member meeting to update those about the resorts. It's usually run by manager type. It is occasionally the sales manager but never anyone lower that I've seen. At Grande Ocean and Harbout Pointe it was run by the general manager of the resort. These meetings were a full hour direct time with no sales info included. Things discussed at various meetings included unit assigments, satisfaction surveys, unit update and changes info (with specifics), smart thermostats (like BCV has), refurbishment plans (with model units, fabrics and pictures) are the issues that come to mind.

In additonal they all included an additional hour, either following or at another time, to handle the exchange process, give tips and the like. At HH there is an II rep on site with Marriott and that person handled the exchange meetings I've been to (3 of them). I'm sure any regular II member could access this person as they have an office at the Marriott Welcome center and make appointments as well as handle drop ins. Unfortunately this leaves out DVC exchanges due to the contractual nature between II and DVC.

Thanks for the update Doc! I went to my first member meeting last summer at BWV but they didn't give hats to the first timers. , just the ones who could answer the trivia questions. After a late night at PI, they brain just wasn't quick enough with those answers.

Got my invite today on the phone, I'm going just to ask about the "Attic". And if we are paying our dues to keep up a room we can't use. It looks like a great place to have a lounge.
I did get upgraded to a 1BR preferred from a studio preferred. The room stunk when we checked in and they tried getting rid of the smell but it didn't work. I stayed in it one night then they moved me,no charge. I may never go back to a studio again.

Mine are 6 and 8... Do people generally bring the kids with them to the Update Meeting, or have someone stay in the room with them? Or are there activities/supervision for the kids during the meeting, to free up the parents?

Some have brought children, but there are no activities for them at the update. Some have had someone stay in the room or occupy the children nearby during the presentation.

Went to the BWV update today. No hats for first timers,they did have a drawing for hats,didn't win one. Asked about the Attic,he said it was never for DVC members,you can rent it for private parties,forgot to ask who pays for the upkeep.
