My Mom and 14 yr old daughter are going over spring break. I have never stayed there before so I don't know about location. It is NOT the hospitality section but the non-preferred. My mom gets around ok for her age, but not a huge walking person, and will probably have a scooter. This is a non-park trip, so not worried about bus transportation, just them hanging out at the resort and Disney springs. They will have a 1 bedroom, my daughter is laid back will just want to hang out quietly and chill at the pool and community hall. They would like easy walk to Disney springs and easy access to a pool.

We usually stay at SSR and love Grandstand right next to that pool, so something like that would be nice.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions, if you have a building # recommendations that would also help. Also is the quick service at OKW as nice as SSR?

If they want Disney Springs, they should be at Saratoga Springs. All units have elevators and DS is close by.

Thanks but that is not an option plus want to give OKW a try...unless SSR is a new booking category for OKW that I'm not aware of:scratchin

First off, the "Hospitality House" booking category is not a "preferred area", just one of many areas at OKW. It is not available for cash booking, only member's staying on points can reserve that area. You CAN walk to Disney Springs, but it is a long walk and is not lighted at night. I would not think your mom would want to do it, even with a scooter. Otherwise, OKW is very laid back and there are good pools in each area. I would think the Old Turtle Pond area would be perfect as the pool is great and there is a snack bar there too.

Quick Service at OKW is nowhere near as good as SSR. It's called Good's Food to Go and it is all outside. Seating is a few picnic tables. "To Go" is the operative words here. Think sandwiches, burgers, chips, etc.

Thanks that helps, I wasn't sure how easy the walk is from OKW but the boat will work fine for them. I have only been to OKW once for night to sleep before a cruise and left right away so even looking at the map it is hard for me to visualize the layout of the resort and how long the distances actually are. I'm trying to determine if close to the boat or pool is more important so I'm debating on bldg 30/31 for the boat or 41/42 for the pool.

We usually stay at EPCOT area or SSR but hear great things about OKW and being it is a non-park visit the larger rooms are appealing too.

The furthest buildings from HH are at South Point, about a 10-12 minute walk. But it's easy to get to HH and the main pool. All park buses stop at HH last on the way out of OKW. Just hop on any park bus and get off at HH. To get back to your villa, walk over to the Peninsular Road stop and hop on any park bus as Peninsular is the first stop for buses coming in to OKW.

If she is using a scooter, she will need to request first floor because only three buildings have elevators. And the odds of getting an elevator building are slim. Goods to Go is nothing like Artists Palette. It was built as the poolside dining and expanded a bit during the last renovation. You sit at a picnic table outside by the boat dock (to Disney Springs) to eat. No inside dining. You can purchase premade or other food items from the store but they are pretty limited. Their selection with be nothing like Artists Palette.

The path to Disney Springs is not lit at night and is about 0.8 miles to Cirque. They need to remember to stay off the golf course and cart paths if they decide to walk over to Disney Springs. Taking the bus or boat might work out better.

According to post#1 -

There are 5 Disney bus stops throughout OKW. The busses usually make the stops in this order:

1. Peninsular Road
2. South Point Road
3. Old Turtle Pond Road
4. Miller's Road
5. North Cove Road (Hospitality House)

I like staying at the Peninsular road bus stop #1 on the route. If I just miss my bus, I can walk over to stop #5 at HH to pick it up.

Of course you are correct, thanks. I screwed up my response above. Meant to say Peninsular Road. I corrected it.

Here is a map of OKW http://www.wdwhelp.com/img-maps/oldkeywestpdf.pdf

I believe the hospitality house's are 11-14 and 23-26. Since you are not staying at the hospitality section and your mother will use a scooter. I would choose either building 62 or building 27. They are a little more scooter friendly to go to the hospitality section than many of the other buildings. Remember ask for ground floor.....

Thanks - I need to verify the HH buildings but according to allears you are correct. At first I was thinking the way allears has their map layout that most of those are all HH so I'm calling (on hold now!) to go with this recommendation.

Just as a follow up they got building 64 and seem extremely happy with it...

Thanks all for your help
