OKW...Here we come!

MY DW called DVC today and was able to book a 2BR at OKW for next Wednesday through Friday nights. This way we will be able to go to MNSSHP twice before heading over to Universal for the really scarey stuff.

Being BWV afficionados, we never even really thought about staying at OKW. What should we request? We will have our car and will have kids with us ranging in age from 12 to 18. We will eat breakfast in the room but will eat all other meals at sit down restaurants.

I'm sure we'll enjoy it but really have no idea what to request. I have to admit that after five years on these boards I never really paid a lot of attention to OKW information. Now I need to know! And as Rich used to say, I won't be able to sit in the living room and reach into the fridge without moving like I can at the BWV's.

Since you will have a car, I don't think there is really a poor section at OKW.

We usually do not have a car for the length of stay, so we request a room near the HH area.

You will love the OKW 2 bedroom! The dining table in the 1 and 2 bedroom can easily seat 6. Nice for meals and evening card games.

We only request a non-smoking room and have always been pleased wherever we end up.

If the water slide is important to your group, then ask to be near the HH.

We like a quiet, wooded or golf course view and try to get in buildings 11, 12 or 13. You can walk to Olivia's and the big pool and the bus stop is the last one in OKW before they head to their destination. In the end, it's really hard to go wrong no matter where you stay and many people like trying someplace different every time.

I'd say just take your chances on what you get. Thats what we usually do except for requesting non smoking for medical reasons. I usually find something really great about each location...different from the others but always something I particularily like about each of them.

I agree with Diane. Focus on smoking/non-smoking and let the chips fall. We've stayed in the Miller Road area near HH and the Peninsular Road area and found them equally convenient. Being a BWV type, you might like being closer to HH. As long as you are within about 5 buildings or so to HH, it's probably a shorter walk to there than from a BWV room to the lobby!

Enjoy your trip...you will enjoy OKW. It is a very different atmosphere from the BWV and my guess is you will enjoy the change.

We like to request water view ! We've never been disappointed !
HBC, I'll be at MNSSHP on Oct 5 if you happen to be there ! I'll try and have something lime green if you happen to see me, stop and say "hi" ! I'll be staying at VWL.

Personally, I like being able to walk to the main pool and store -- we are notorious for thinking of something we need early or late in the day AND I hate getting in the car. (We pretty much always have a car.)

However, we frequently take a walk around the resort (isn't that crazy after all the walking we do at parks?) and it all looks great. It's so refreshing just to be there. Once in a while I drag my wife to another resort, but she always complains she wants to be at OKW.

Have a great stay! I'm glad you got such a great ressie at such short notice! We've only stayed in the elevator buildings, and we both enjoyed that location/view. We really really loved the wonderfully large living/dining area... we felt pampered!

I can't wait to hear your report when you return, HBC! I'm like OTM's wife, I always want to stay at OKW, even when I enjoy the other DVC resorts. It just feels more like a HOME to me.

you know OKW is nothing like BWV.....

since you like to be in the middle of the action - I agree request something near HH.

I like as far away from HH as possible...

You will definitely like the bigger rooms.

if you get a good view - then you can also enjoy the outside balcony - where 4 people can seat and eat, and even have room.....

In your situation with exception of smoking or non-smoking it really does not matter where your room is located. There are no bad locations at OKW. Your two bedroom will be just great also. Have fun!
