We'll be staying at OKW for the first time in a week. If we have a choice of which building to be in, which would you recommend?

Are there bus stops throughout the resort?

What are the buildings closest to the main pool?

What are the buildings closest to the boat dock to DTD?

I think I read somewhere that certain buildings have smaller bathrooms? Which buildings are they?

Thanks in advance!

See this map:

http://www.wdwinfo.com/resortmaps/okwmap.htm

The main pool & boat dock are located by the Hospitality House

The bathrooms are the same size, the difference is for buildings 11 to 29, the only entrance to the master bathroom is through the bedroom. Buildings 30 and up have a second entrance through the laundry room. Only really important if you have someone sleeping in the living room and don't want them walking into your bedroom at night.

Thanks Debbie. 30 and up for us. Don't want the kiddies walking into the Parents bedroom when you're at the most romantic place in the world :smooth:

Are there bus stops throughout the resort? Yes, there are five - Hospitality House, Miller Road, Peninsular Road, South Point Road and Old Turtle Pond Rd.

Just to add, there are 5 bus stops throughout the resort and 4 pools, so I wouldn't stress too much about needing to be near the Hospitaltiy House or main pool. If you need to get there, you can always hop a bus, because all buses stop there last.

We love being near the Turtle Pond Pool. It's quiet, convenient with a nearby bus stop. You can request a vacation home near there, and they'll try hard to accomodate you.

Our first few trips we always ended up in South Point, 53 & 55. That's a great spot. It's quiet but close to a pool and bus stop. I've heard that they like to put celebrities in 55 because it's secluded.

Last trip we stayed in 16. I liked that location for convenience. We could walk to a quiet pool, HH and 2 bus stops. You could leave from HH (last stop) and on return get off at Peninsular Rd. (first stop). That way you don't have to ride the bus through resort making stops.

I've never stayed in the Turtle Pond area, but a lot of people like it. I think I'll try that next.

I would definitely agree with your assesment of South Point! We LOVE that area, but haven't gotten it for a few years. We used to request it all the time, but lately we have only requested Non-smoking and have taken our chances on where we get placed. I have never been really disapointed, but I do prefer the units above 30 with the extra bath room door. I also love to use the quiet pools!

I let them roll the dice and see what happens... so far we haven't been dissapointed! Every area has something to offer.

My DDs (13 and 10) both like to be close to HH now-a-days.

We were in Building 40 and loved it. :cloud9: This is between Turtle Pond Pool and the Bus stop. It seems like a lot of people like the Turtle Pond area.

We don't ask for specific buildings, but we do ask for areas. Your chances of getting your requests met are better if you do not request a specific area. I think people who ask for specific buildings are usually disappointed, or am I wrong here?

Does everyone just make their area or building requests when they check in? Or do you need to do that ahead of time?

You can request a building, or a pool area (e.g "request near Turtle Pond Pool"). Just remember that some buildings are smoking and some are non smoking, so you need to factor that into your request.

At OKW, we almost always seem to get the area we request, so it's worth requesting it when you reserve your stay.

We like to be close to HH so we choose building 62, 63 or 64 for the most part.

For close to HH, we had building 13 in December, and it was literally steps away!

ask for a certain area - like the HH (if you want the main pool)

don't ask for a certain building. If the building is completely filled when you arrive - then the room controller won't know where to put you.

I like to ask for a water view near a bus stop. Got some great views with this one!!!

We make our requests when we make our reservations. We always request Old Turtle Pond pool area and NS.

Any building at Old Key West is better than the cubicle I am sitting in right now! :rotfl2:

We just got back on Sunday. Stayed in 1 bdrm (Villa 3821), Turtle Pond area. 3 requests-- non smoking, golf view, 1st floor. Didn't get the 1st floor request and we checked in around 4:30. We were EXTREMELY happy with OKW! In fact, WE LOVED IT!!!

The view was fantastic--except being on the 2nd floor there was no view in the bedroom at all. All you could see was the palm trees!!
