OKW and SSR are the future of DVC!

We're boomers whose favorite is BCV. Love AKV too for an occasional stay.

Don't get the high rise thing. SSR is 4 stories, isn't it? BCV is 5.:confused3 And self parking is quite close to the building at BCV. I walked farther during our one SSR stay to get to the building then I've ever needed to do in many BCV stays.

But it's always good to see DVCers happy with their DVC home. Hope that's where they choose to book.;)

I do think SSR was designed more for a prototypical boomer than a "typical Disney family". You got golf, Spa, Walking paths, close to shopping, somewhat easier access to non-WDW activities.
After my last SSR stay, I was mezmerized with the beauity of the view from my far Grandstand building, so I'm now happy with SSR!
Still, I want to stay at other DVC resorts, as they offer additional advantages in the realm of theming that would stimulate a kids imagination, and proximity advantages.

We were born in 52 and 53 and love our second home, OKW!:cool1:

Some comments about the original post. I have to dissagree that Baby boomers are DVC's target audience. They used to be, but now the children of the baby boomers have taken over. I am 38, my parents were baby boomers. I was born in 1970 and am not in that age range. I am right in the middle of What has always been the DVC sales demographic (mid 30's to mid 40's). We are all children of the baby boom generation. There are some valid points to why SSR and OKW work well, but the three newest properties under developement(The Grand Californian, and BLT, and Hawaii project) do not fall into the same mold as OKW and SSR. They are hotel based. So to say that SSR and OKW are the Future of DVC seems unlikely.

Now I know why I dislike my home resort SSR! Its because I am a Gen-Xer!
I have posted before that the next time I stay at SSR will be my next golf vacation without kids. Being that my DD4 and DD1.5 have a few years before they leave for college, I have a lot of time to plan my trip in 2020.
Until then, the theming of the disney parks and resorts have been what attracts me, and SSR lacks in that theming. The horse theme always seemed like an afterthought to me, like, "we need to name this generic condominium complex something, so this is what we came up with".

I am buying an add on at AKV, which we love because it was truly planned out vs. "churned out" IMNSHO.

I hope they use this creativity when they put the finishing touches on BLT, so that it does not become the "Generic Highrise next to the contemporary", as currently it looks like they just awkwardly dropped in a building from Waikiki. I hope the inside and pool just scream "disney magic" to make up for the drab exterior.

SSR and OKW may be the future of the Disney Vacation Club, but only because it's cheaper to build a resort with no amenities.

Rich people have been buying second homes in Naples for years. Do they buy units in low-slung apartments or apartments in high-rise buildings? Personally, I'd rather do what the rich people are doing.

Amenties = SPA
which as I recall is only at SSR and Grand Floridian
I guess poor people go to the SPA and play golf
I wish I was poor so I could stay at the GF as it is low slung and has a SPA like SSR :lmao:

I really don't care how the amenities got there!

And for what it's worth, I'd like to stay at OKW at some point. BUT, I have to say that I look at myself as giving up something in exchange for bargain-basement, large rooms. I think most people view it the same way (although I am aware many would pay extra for the "away from it all" atmosphere).

WOW..BARGAIN-BASEMENT! I have been a member at OKW since 1994 when it WAS DVC and have never considered it bargain basement in any way. I have stayed at BCV and BWV , but always return to OKW for the accomodations, convenience of access to your car and for the relaxing atmosphere. It's not the same for others and I do not questions others priorities, but I would not place OKW is the value category at WDW...maybe you will, but right now, I think its unfair to make your statement if you have not stayed there.

Connears

yes I am a baby-boomer (1957)

Maybe I am reading too much into this post but I feel that this statement has crossed a line. DVC has different styles and themed resorts for different tastes. To express a dislike or to state you have no desire to stay at a particular resort for certain reasons is one thing. To call another resort "bargain-basement" based solely on YOUR likes and dislikes is another. You don't like OKW and that is fine, even if you have never stayed there, but to put down another resort by using such language is not right. On the whole, your resort is no better than any other resort. It is only better to you. Those members at OKW and those who choose to stay there are just as much a part of DVC as you are and as of yet, we do not have a tiered system to designate them any different.

Don't get too bent out of shape by Mississippian. If you look at his prior posts, he seems to get a kick out of bashing other peoples resorts. we SSR owners can sit back and enjoy our dedicated bus service, our .92 per point lower annual dues, and we can enjoy our membership for 12 more years than he can.

We are among the first of the baby boomers (summer '46) and we just love our BWV. We spend almost all of our park time at Epcot or DHS, so the location is perfect for us. However, we have stayed at OKW and we really loved the size of the 1BR there, not to mention the fabulous balcony, and we would gladly stay there again, even though we do prefer our home resort. That's why we purchased there in the first place. I think that is the beauty of DVC, there's something to please everyone.

THAT is the main reason I don't mind my SSR contract... We are 36 and 33 and hopefully will live to see the ends of our 2054 date, so the extra 12 years really matters. The reduced dues make us smile especially if we are using our 7 month window to stay at those upper-crusty resorts. Thanks for paying the dues BTW.:rotfl:
If you like your resort...Great! No need for one put down others resorts to make ourselves feel better-than.
I have heard from quite a few Gen-Xers who feel the same way... I am in it for the long haul, so saving a few thousands over the life of my contract means more money for annual passes. When the 7 month window dries up we will consider selling. Till then we will live it up.
