Okay we have talked tubs..how about dishes/utensils? DO YOU......

MG, please tell me I didn't just read that you wash the washing machine before you use it...
Yes, I hate to admit it, but it's true..

I actually got the idea from DISboards sometime ago... when someone did indeed say they washed poop clothes in the washing machine..

Well I am sure it has happened... but I would have never thought to run the washer before using it. I am sure there are many others that do run it before using it.

You're a science teacher... aren't you?

You are right... I should have specified bacteria. I guess germ is a catch-all word, and frankly didn't realize viruses fell under that category. I too am a hand washer (one notch below OCD). I am in IT, and find myself using others keyboard and mouse. I do use Purell after each encounter.

No not science but I do have teaching degree...elementary my dear elementary. LOL

Gosh, I sure do love you on the DIS, but that's the weirdest thing I ever heard of.

Do you do it at home, too, or is it the idea of a stranger's poop that skeeves you out? Because those same germs are on your underwear, you know. And the whole idea of a washing machine, see, is to clean that up for you so you don't have to go down to the stream and beat them clean on the rocks, see. And then the machine lets you put in something called SOAP that cleans that stuff right up. And then the machine even RINSES ITSELF OUT at the end.

Just kidding around, obviously. But I really have never heard of anyone taking it to that extreme. Cary on!!!

Gotta get that residue out of there... :teeth:
No, I don't have any idea if it's rational or not, but it makes me feel better... :smokin:

Weird doesn't even describe that one! I mean, who with kids hasn't had to wash out some poopy clothes?! I would dunk 'em in the toilet FIRST tho to get rid of the worst of it...but seriously, anybody with little ones has had to deal with one of those up the back jobs at some point, right?!

Then wash away, my friend!!!!!

It might gross you out to hear that I picked up, with my bare hand, something I thought was a rock in the sandy bottom of the BC Stormalong Bay pool and it squished in my hand. I told the lifeguard that someone had pooped in the pool, but he just took it from me with a glove and didn't seem very interested. I had to go to another Cast Member nearby who was giving out the pool towels and tell him, and he did finally get a couple of the lifeguards to swim near the area, but they didn't see anytihng else. I did, though, so I know there was more poop floating around down there. I think they looked at a couple of things and said they were leaves, so they didn't take me seriously. Good thing it was our last day - even as non-germ phobic as I am, I couldn't stomach the idea of going in without a 24 hour chlorine cycle between me and the poop. We all washed our hands many, many times that day!!!!

OMG, I am ROFL :rotfl2: ! This thread is over the top! :lmao:

But, it is not just you guys! ;) My DW's best friends parents, older, retired, have a solution to this. Because, you see, they have gotten to the point where , when they travel, which is not much any more, :confused3 they will sleep in their clothes because they saw a story on Dateline about the bed bugs. They will not enjoy meals in restaurants, because they saw a story on 20/20 about germs in restaurants. They hate to fly because they saw a story on TV about the airlines and how they don't filter the air in the planes like they should.

They were considering joining DVC so they could take the grandchildren to Disney. But the thought of all those germmy (sp?) resorts and restaurants freaked them out.

But, they came up with a solution!! :thumbsup2

They are buying a 37 foot RV!! Now, they can drive all over the country to see the sights and THEY DON"T HAVE TO GET OUT OF THE RV!! :rotfl: They can sleep in their own bed, cook their own food, etc.. :cloud9:

Seriously though, if I ever get that bad please send me to a shrink or take me out back and shoot me!

...
- Wash my hands after using the bathroom
- Don't touch things in a public restroom

Sometime just notice how many people do NOT wash their hands after using the bathroom. A quick water rinse doesn't count... :crazy2:

MG

I can't count on what anyone else has washed, so it makes much more sense to me to wash my hands BEFORE using a public toilet.:rolleyes1

This thread is really getting me thinking but I can't stop living! There is no way that we can avoid germs altogether, unless we live in a bubble, and I love WDW too much to do that! LOL I think that we should take it seriously but in moderation. Different circumstances require different means of action - if the dishes look dirty - wash them! If the toilet looks like it was used - wipe it! If the dishwasher looks scuzzy - run it once before use and so on....

Carolyn - my thoughts exactly. I'm not as worried about my germs on my hands after I go as I am about the germs on my hands before I go. The whole hand washing after does make sense - don't get me wrong. But washing before does make sense to me. Who knows what those hands have touched on the way into the restroom.

You know what....on one of those date lines or something....maybe Oprah...I don't remember....they tested stuff around the house and they did find nasty bacteria in washers. I know that my new front loader has a sanitizing cycle there for a reason.

My son has OCD and he's done about 9 months with a "shrink" because I don't want him ending up like my sister. She won't stay in any hotels period, because of those 20/20 shows. She comes home everyday and washes everything but her shoes. She won't put it in a hamper as the germs might get on other things. She justifies this behavior by the fact she hasn't been sick in 5 yrs. Though she's had to buy a new washing machine and usually goes through 2 winter jackets a winter(they are really not made to be washed every day).

Personally I would drag her to the "shrink" but she doesn't think anything is wrong.:confused3

OCD is a serious illness and my post is in no way meant to belittle the fact that many peoples lives are a living nightmare because of OCD. With the proper treatment people with OCD move on to live what we would call our normal life.

I hope that you son overcomes this disorder as quickly as possible.

He's doing much better, Thank you!:goodvibes

Unfortunately my sister is getting worse and sees no problem with her behavior. :sad2:

Apparently, I must live "on the edge" then. I don't wash the washing machine and I trust that the dishes have been washed. I'm a rebel like that, though! On a more serious note, I have had OCD tendencies...and as I've aged, convinced myself that these things don't have to be done. I convince myself nearly every day though. I sort of passed it on to my DD10, When she was in Kindergarten, I had the school counselor talk to her because she had been washing her hands so much, they were nearly raw. I think it has to be addressed and talked about. My sister and I both have this and we laugh about our "habits"....I talked to my DD10 and told her that it's something she's going to have to convince herself that is not REALLY necessary.

We stayed at SSR and BWV and I am happy to report THAT I DIDN'T REWASH ANY OF THE DISHES/UTENSILS. LOL We survived and didn't get sick. ;)
