Okay that’s cold

Brrrrr. We are at -36F windchill right now. But really that’s been common this winter along with blizzards (we’ve had 8 so far this year)

Ugg. So done with this winter.Let’s get onto spring and the inevitable flooding.

I was just outside and it’s already beyond cold. We have a grocery delivery tomorrow morning and I’m already not looking forward to it.

I’m working from home still so I’m good.
I just worry about the teens who think running shoes and a unzipped jacket is fine to wear on days like this. Maybe gloves if I nag enough.

With windchill it’s supposed to be -53 F here tomorrow morning. Yikes!
crazy weather!

Do any of you own generators? Curious.

That is crazy cold. Tomorrow is supposed to be close to 50 here and rain.

So I suppose we must be going back in the negatives in two seconds if that is going on so close. Boo to all of it!

Once we got past the spirit-sucking three weeks around Christmas/early January where it hung around the -30C mark, a blessed Chinook blew in, melted all the snow and kept us above zero every day for the past month. Until this last Saturday. :cold: We got 5" of snow that night and we're back below -20C for the next week.

No, no generator. We don’t really worry about pipes freezing or the power going out because we’re used to it, and construction is done to make sure everything is protected. The ground freezes to a depth of around 6-8 feet.

I should say that I, personally, don’t worry about pipes freezing but it can definitely be a worry in older homes.

Where does it get this cold? Are you all way up in Canada? Brrrr just thinking about those temps

Yes, "all the way up", but not near so far up as Canada goes right to the tippity-top.

I'm in Calgary which is in the Rocky Mountains about 1,000 miles due north of Salt Lake City. CdnCarrie is in Winnipeg which is a few hundred miles north of Grand Forks, ND. LisaViolet is in Toronto, which is much further south and across Lake Ontario from Buffalo, NY.

Here in MN we are looking at some stupid temps, too. I don't mind the cold, if there is sun. And, I don't mind the snow if there is nowhere to go.

It is days like this where it is freezing AND snowing AND blowing and I have to send my kids to school that I worry. Only because my kid is a newish driver and this is his first winter.

I'm an hour north of Milwaukee and we've had -20F with windchills of -40. Now we're getting ready for a layer of ice and then a couple inches of snow on top of it. I was awoken by a phone call at 5:45 this morning telling me that my kids don't have school today. This is now 6 days off in a row.

Ohhh, have any of you seen the Northern Lights? This is one thing I would really love to see, when I see photos the display looks breathtaking.
Yes. I was raised 500 miles further north than I now live and they are more distinct and visible during more times of the year the farther north you go. This picture (according to the internet  ) was taken near my hometown:

no we don’t own a generator, never needed one.
And yes the new driver worries me too! Especially driving in his runners if he gets stuck.

I can’t even fathom that level of cold. Last year in Texas it hit single digits in F and that was cold and everything was shut down for a week cause of snow.
It was 85 yesterday and today the same, but another cold front is coming so lows in the 30s again.

No generator here, either.

My new driver made it to school - left the house in a t-shirt...said he thinks he has a flannel in the car.

Promptly fell on the ice at school, however.

I used to want to move to FLA because of this, but I do enjoy the drastic change in seasons now - we are looking to move further north, even.
