be just fine. We leave Sunday for a quick trip, 4 day Wonder cruise then back home and work on Friday. No big deal right:confused:

So I watch the weather channel and a hurricane the size of MONTANA is churning across the Atlantic AND a plane from the airline we are using just slid off a runway at the airport we are leaving from:eek:

So talk me down cause my stress just went into overdrive.

Steve

is Montanta a new state??...oh you fixed it before BD spotted you!!!! not fair!!!

I know it's easy to say, but I'm sure the Captain will steer clear of any hurricane...Captain Verandah Underpants would I know ... maybe rain leaving port, but you should be clear of it after you get out to sea. Just think, it may be a mystery cruise.. how exciting, you may end in Canada like the Norwegian cruise did!!!

Our very first cruise in 2000, we boarded during a tropical storm. It was AWFUL! Our boarding picture looked terrible because we were soaked!

We ended up having the time of our lives and have sailed again every year since then.

Once we boarded they set sail for clearer skies. You will have a great time. Go! Enjoy!

Better to be enjoying yourself onboard during bad weather, THAN stuck at home!

First off it's not too unusual for a plane to run to the end at Midway. Its runways are among the shortest in the US. Have you ever flown from there before? I'll tell you right now, takeoffs and landings there are a bit intense. Don't get too worried. They make many takeoffs and landings from there every day, and this is the first time I can remember one ran all the way to the blast shield.

And the hurricane probably won't get anywhere near where you're sailing on the 4 day. Relax and enjoy.

I can address your fears about the ATA plane, as we fly them an average of once a month from Midway to Orlando and back again. Those 757-300s are the largest plane that can take off and land at Midway, and I always feel like flapping my arms as we head down that runway so we don't end up in the White Castle drive-thru on Cicero :jester:
But seriously, in all of our flights, we've never had anything like that happen. The only time we ever had a problem, it was totally weather-related and the worst that happened was being diverted to Rockford to refuel and being stuck on a plane for a total of 6 hours. On that trip, as we were landing, we were hit with a tail wind right at the last minute. I was amazed (but glad) to discover how quickly they can abort a landing and get the plane back up in the air if they need to. We went back up, circled around, and landed safely.
Yes, things do happen, but safe flights are the vast majority. Even though we fly so much, it scares me every time, but the idea of a 24 hour drive scares me much more. We've had great flights with ATA and I'll send lots of pixie dust your way for the same. Even Rainman would fly them (remember the "Quantas" part of the movie?) because I don't think they've ever had a serious accident.

you will be fine... statistically (sp?) you are in the clear now as the one runway misshap for the year has already gotten out of the way ! :)
As for the hurricane, the captain will sail around/away from it don't worry, relax you will have a blast!

well i feel your panic .. what is going to happen to us?? will we sail?will we get to see the cast a way?

I was just looking at the maps of Isabel, and the projected paths & speed. I'm not much of an expert, but it looks like if Isabel keeps going at the current speed, it will hit the Bahamas on Thursday, and then continue on. By Sunday's sailing, she should be history.
But, then again, what do I know?

Ok, Fireplug, huckster & justmestace I'm not going to have to babysit you three on the ship am I??????? ;) If we have enough rum, we won't care too much about the storm.

See you all in 5 days :bounce: :Pinkbounc

#1Mouse assured me that if I agreed to go on a cruise in the heart of hurricane season it would be okay. And I know she wouldn't lie to me, so you guys quit worrying!! We are going to have fun, even if it means sitting on deck in our rain ponchos. :D

 GEE, now don't I feel better since I'll be sailing on THURSDAY!!!

ok as long as we dont sail north to some where cold and pleaseeeeeeee give us cc at least that!!

The ship still sails in hurricanes - just different ports
Stop whining! At least you'll still be ON the Ship!
Geesch I cant believe after all the negatives Ive gotten that you guys are upset about the possibility of missing Castaway Cay! A hurricane will not delay your cruise. Imagine not getting ON the ship - now compare a hurricane to that "other thing". Im sure there are lots of us 11/30 non-cruisers who would have loved the chance for a Mystery Cruise
Go with the flow - relax - have fun

My DW and I sailed right after Hurricane Floyd, it took out Castaway Cay so we went to Key West instead. I know it wasn't C.C. but it was a good time and somewhere I had not been before. The ship will sail, the crew will make sure you have a good time, just go with what happens and have a great cruise.

PS : if you are still worried and don't want to go, I will gladly sacrifice myself and go in your place !!!

Stop whining?

I think they were just venting concerns,, whining would be saying the same thing over and over and over and over..."poor me type of issue"...............

Fireplug, your fears are genuine. Pre-vacation jitters are common and then when you have things like airplanes going off the runway and hurricanes coming at it you fear the worst.

As Ann said now that the runway mishap has happened you are in the clear. Take Barb's advice and flap your arms as you leave Midway :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :p

Once you get on the ship you will be treated by one of the best crews afloat (the other being on the Magic). They'll take good care of you and do their best to give you the cruise of your lifetime.

Plus I happen to personally know some of your fellow travelers (Hi Gail & John) and know you are in for the time of your life!

Enjoy!

(ok sorry - Ive been told that since day one so it came out too easy for me)

Please relax and have a great cruise! You will be ON the ship. Enjoy your Mystery Cruise

Thank You Ann - you're correct these people are not whining - just a little concerned. As WDWLVR said (Hi Mary & Mark, Thanks again for the Bon Voyage card - loved it) the pre-vacation jitters are common and the other things just make it a little more stressful. It would only be natural to want to vent these concerns, which is exactly what they were doing - not whinning. Storm or no storm this group is going to have a great time - who wouldn't, we'll be on a Disney cruise.

From "talking" with fireplug, justmestace & huckster the past couple of months - they seem to be very upbeat, postive people and not whiners at all. We've had a great time just posting back and forth, I can't wait to finally meet them!!! I'm sure they are looking forward to having a great time and they will. Just remember these concerns now will just make you appreciate even more the great time that you and myself will have on this cruise .

Think ADVENTURE!!
