i got banned.
yeah. it happens. :confused3 i don't know if anyone even remembers it, but because of that, i kinda know how those things work.

it runs on a point system, and points appear instantly. as in, you can get them when you log off, and they're active until you log back on. its possible to log out, and have several infractions seen, then when you log back on you have active punishments.

my record of infractions is three pages long(), so i won't share all of them. but here is part of it. the first line is where i got the points, (feel free to note that many of mine were never shared with me. i'm not sure why)

now, only i can see those notes. and only the banned person would be able to see hers.

i'm the first to say when i see something going wrong, but is it possible that if someone were in the habit of filtering their own posts (*AGAINST THE RULES*) maybe it was done on several different posts and all of them were flagged? the points will add up, quickly. possibly even over night?:confused3 since moderation is usually done in waves, it would be easy to flag the same type of posts from several different people (notice my many "signature rules violations")

i could be wrong, but from what i've seen and what i've been told, it seems like several sets of points could have racked up fast (and believe me, they do.) resulting in a banning?

oh, by the way, naming banned people is against the rules too. :confused3

I remember when you were banned, Shelby. And I 100% agree that the points system is not working, at least the way it's ran.

Shelby, I remember when you got banned. I think a lot of the threads are Private because they've been deleted. At least, that's what happened to the thread that I got points for because I had a filter violation. I was able to see what thread it was until someone deleted it.

well. i thought that at first too, but several times i was able to hunt them down, and find my posts (posts look different to the poster when they got points on them.) yet they were still private?:confused3

A person gets banned from the DISboards if they accumulate 100 points within a certain amount of time (15 or 30 days, depending on the infraction given) You can be banned for 10 days, 1 month or a permanent ban.

Penalties:
40 points - Unable to send private messages and cannot have a signature until the points expire
60 points - 10 day ban
80 points - 1 month ban
100 points - Permanent ban

For example: If you get an infraction for a filter violation, you will have 30 points and will expire in 30 days. After the 30 days your points go back to 0.

If you got banned, you wouldn't be posting on the DISboards right now. A person gets banned from the DISboards if they accumulate 100 points within a certain amount of time (15 or 30 days, depending on the infraction given)

There are bans that aren't permanent..

Hm, that's interesting. I haven't been able to hunt down my post.

She had a temporary ban, Travis.

if you look at my dates, travis, i did get banned. i did accumulate enough points to be banned. :)

I know this, I was talking about permanent banning and that you wouldn't be posting right now. I edited my post.

well that seems rather obvious to me. i didn't feel the need to say that i got a temporary ban, because i'm obviously still posting and this name is old enough that it was around before the point sytem reared its head. :confused3 i'll be more explicit next time.

I've got:

Minor Personal Attack (from MaryJo [which, coincidentally, is my sister's name...], 0 points).

Argumentative/Sarcastic (from Travis, 10 points)

Major Personal Attack (from Travis, 40 points).

All are expired, but I did go through 30 days with no sig for that major personal attack (and I took a self-imposed 30 day leave of absence). Never actually gotten myself banned, though...
