Okay, so how is the transportation from ASMu to the Parks???

Here's the truth: It was adequate. Not great, but adequate, and that depends on where you're going. It seemed like the buses didn't come by as frequently as they did for the more upscale resorts. This wasn't a problem for MGM, or Epcot, 'cuz you're so close. We rent a car, but we gave WDW transportation a shot and IT WAS HORRENDOUS, after staying for Spectromagic and the fireworks. It took almost 2 hrs, of standing in a LONG LONG (did I mention it was long?)line for the buses. You would see 3 to 4 buses for every one that would stop at for the All-Stars. BTW, we were there in October of '99 so the crowds weren't as large. We would use 'em again,(we're going back in May and probably staying at the All-Stars)but we won't be using it for the fireworks. You're probably better off driving to the water parks, as the buses seemed to be infrequent there(Typhoon Lagoon), as well. Overall, I'd give the buses about a "C+" from the All-Stars. Hope this helps!

Another viewpoint:
We were at the ASMu 8/4-8/11 this year and the transportation was really good compared with the other resorts I've stayed at (including the deluxes). At the close of Fantasmic we were discouraged because the line for the AS stretched all the way back to the lake area but the AS busses were coming 3 at a time and we were back at the room in less than 45 minutes, not a record, but impressive considering the flood of people. The only other time anyone in our party waited more than 15 minutes for a bus was when my DS went to DisneyQuest (Downtown Disney) midday. I don't think the busses run to DTD very often before evening and combine the run with the one to Typhoon Lagoon. I think you'll hear transportation horror stories about any resorts except those on the MK monorail. They do combine the AS busses sometimes (Sports, Music, then Movies while we were there) and sometimes we had to stand but our overall experience was positive. ( RANT ALERT!) People, please let little kids and adults holding babies have your seat! It's very very dangerous for them to stand. I couldn't believe the # of, ahem, young adults who sat while a lady carrying a sleeping 3 year old tried to stand upright on a swerving bus. (We were standing too, but if I saw my DS do this he'd be in big trouble!)

Thanks guys!!! I'm going to give the busses a shot as I'll be by myself and plan on pacing myself.....Jennifer, I couldn't agree more about the people who sit there watching a person (who is usually holding a sleeping toddler) try and stay balanced on those busses. My sister & I always give our seats up.....but....some people just don't get it.

14 hours until I start driving down!!:jester:

We stayed at All Star Sports last October and the bus transportation was great. I think this year bus transportation will not be as good because they now have bus by demand or something sounding like this.
I always use the buses. When I am on vacation I do not drive.

I was at ASMU from 8/1 to 8/7 of this year and I thought that the bus system was absolutely fantastic! The longest wait that we had was 15 min. one morning to Epcot. Usually there was a bus there within 5 min. or less. And as posted earlier -the # of buses does seem to increase at park closing so while they are crowded they are quick and efficient.

We were there 8/18 - 8/25 and after hearing about the Disney transportation problems we had planned on driving everywhere except Magic Kingdom. We wanted to bus to MK in order to avoid the monorail/ferry bottlenecks that happen after closing.

After our first day of using the transportation we never drove to a park again. At the All Star Sports the buses came every few minutes and even at night when there was a line, I don't think we ever waited more than 15 minutes.

We may have been there during a slow week, but if you can handle standing on a bus for 15 minutes after being at a park all day, I wouldn't hesitate to use the Disney transportation any time we stay on-site. It was also nice for me not having to navigate the roads in the dark trying to figure out how to get back to the hotel.

One thing we did notice was the "pecking order" of the bus stops. It seemed like the place at all of the parks to get on and off the bus was always the furthest from the park entrance if you were going to or from the All Stars. The deluxe resorts seemed to have the closest areas for their pick up/drop off.

Thanks for the heads up. My mom is staying at the ASMu in March and was wondering about bus service.

I'll be sure to pass on the information.
