Okay okay, so I finally did it...another purchase already?

I'll be sure to say that to DH when he asks me how my one big purchase (being the upgrade to the D90) for the year ended up turning into the D90, plus two new bags, more memory and a new lens...and it's only almost April.

You have to protect your investment with nice bags, and they have to be stylish yet practical (at least, that's what my wife tells me), you have to have memory cards to capture the images (it's not your fault they sell the cameras w/o memory cards, right?), and you have to have multiple lenses to capture your creative vision and push the camera and yourself to the fullest potential (it's not your fault they don't make a magical lens that does everything you want at every focal length, right?).

DH bought me a 50D for Christmas...the battery grip for Valentine's Day and just today I decided to buy the Crumpler $6M bag (when I have "two perfectly good bags" already). Let's don't even talk about the tripod I need (hey, the camera is heavier than my previous one) and the new shutter release (once again, new camera...new connections) and then there are the lenses I'm looking at

I feel your pain with the DH.

Excellent. Nice purchase. I really enjoy using this lens. If you do any of the indoor stuff in DC this lens will come in handy.

We'll be doing LOTS of indoor stuff in DC (Holocaust Museum, Bureau of Engraving and Printing, Naval Museum, etc.) and at first I thought the 50 would be fine...and then I started to realize that things in museums are sometimes in really small spaces and that something a little wider would probably be my best bet (or at least this is what I told myself).

I'm just disappointed I didn't bite the bullet months ago when it was almost $50 cheaper than it is now. Oh well, lesson learned right? Buy now---justify the purchase later.

I too am trying to do my part to jumpstart the economy. I ordered my third lens in as many months ( I got a nifty fifty when I ordered the D300, a 10.5mm fisheye last month and today ordered another lens.) The lens I ordered today though is not for me ... I ordered my son a nifty fifty for in his Easter basket. He might be 28 but he's still my little boy and since he is such a good kid I thought a new lens would be the perfect thing for in his basket!!

That is a VERY nice thing to do for your son, hope he enjoys it! I know I would love even getting a Reeses egg in my basket, let alone a new lens.

This is OT, but it reminded me about something my Dad did for me a long time ago and how he gave me an experience in my life that I can't wait to recreate somehow with my kids. When I was a sophomore in high school, I started playing guitar. We didn't have a whole lot of money growing up, but we always got by. As such, I was raised in a very frugal environment. I got a job working a couple of hours after school so I could buy a Fender Stratocaster electric guitar. My Dad always taught me never to buy things with a credit card (although I haven't lived by his example too well since... sorry, Dad ). My parents wouldn't buy it for me and told me that if I wanted the guitar bad enough that I could get a job to pay for it, so I did. Long story short, I finally made enough to buy the guitar (it took about 9 months I think) and then didn't have any money to buy an amplifier. A couple of weeks after buying the guitar, we were sitting at the dinner table and my Dad told me to go get something out of the trunk of his car. I was shocked when I opened the trunk and saw an amplifier! Not a cheap amplifier, it was a very very decent one. Turns out that my Dad was so impressed by the way I took it upon myself to get what I wanted (and then he felt sorry for me because I didn't have anything to plug the guitar into) that he went out and bought me an amp. Of course, after that, I think he regretted it due to the noise Anyway, my point is that I remember that so vividly because my Dad supported my hobby, which was/is a big deal to me.

You could call me dad but MOM would be more appropriate ... sorry, I dont usually post my name in my posts so you really had no way of knowing ... I do however get ALOT of mail addressed to Mr. because my name is Karyl (like Carol) but many people see it as Karl if they dont know me.

My son had a pretty nasty accident in September while teaching, of all things, a motorcycle safety course (his weekend job). It was just an unfortunate incident where the surface was wet and he was doing a slow left hand turn and the back of the bike slid sideways and landed on his left leg. He ended up spending a week at UPenn hospital, three operations, and now has a permanent titanium rod in his leg. Recovery has been slow but he is on the mend and working hard in physical therapy. He also got laid off from his job in December so I thought a new lens might just be the thing for his basket this year. The Easter Bunny is not usually so generous around here but this year was kind of a special situation.

Now back to your regularly scheduled programming ..........

Again my apologies to Ann .... I am really looking forward to seeing some Wash DC shots with new lens!!

To Laura---NO NO NO I will NOT, I CANNOT buy another lens before WDW. At this point, all savings will be going to WDW. If it wasn't for the fact that I got paid for my little broken p&s, I don't even know if I would have bought the Sigma before the trip.

Although if I HAD to say which lens I would be buying next, it would probably be the Tokina 11-16 f/2.8. I think I'm going to rent that and the 10.5 fisheye for Disney to see which one I like best and then...in 2010, I can make my next lens purchase with Christmas money

Definitely hope to get some good shots in DC although right now the weather forecase isn't looking great (but we all know how that goes--you can't trust it til at the earliest 2 days out). It's times like these when I wish my camera had weathersealing, that way no matter what the conditions, I could still manage to get something.

It'll be here Wednesday---I even splurged on the "standard shipping" on Amazon rather than the free Super Saver Shipping that I usually get to ensure I had it in time for this coming weekend.
