Okay. I give up.

I wondered about this when we were in WDW last month.

I'd get a Fast Pass, and then breeze by dozens and dozens of people in the standby line, some of whom were waiting in the heat for 45 minutes or more, to ride, say Big Thunder, or Splash, or Rock 'n Roller Coaster.

And all I could ask myself is: why????

Why on earth didn't they get a Fast Pass??? There were plenty available, and often the FP return time was just 40 or 45 minutes later. It's not like they'd have a TON of time to kill.

Anybody out there have a clue??

:confused3 :confused3 :confused3

For unknown reasons many people seem to not get what the Fast Pass is... it seems many think you need to pay for them or be special to get them. I am kinda happy that so many folks don't "get it" though. Gotta be honest! hehehe! :goodvibes

Haven't ever been able to figure it out either, but that's quite ok with me. The more people that figure out fast pass the sooner the fast passes are gone for the day leaving me with out.

At the great risk of being flamed I will have to say it is because the majority of the people in this country are stupid. Now, I'm serious. I am a tax accountant. I get people coming into my office every single day bringing me letters from the IRS or the State Treasury. They want me to tell them why they are getting letters. Some of them are as simple as you overpaid on your taxes and have a credit and these people are bent WAY out of shape. Why didn't they just read the darned thing? It would have saved 1) their time, 2) my time, 3) their money (I should charge double for stupid questions) and, 4) their blood pressure. We have become a society that is no longer able to think for themselves. We wait for somebody to tell us what to do and then follow like Lemmings.

Sorry folks, but that is how I see it.

While I do agree that most people just don't get the whole fast pass idea, I also think that some people may already have one fast pass in hand and are "killing time" while waiting in line to ride another attraction. Maybe? Just a thought. :confused3 :flower:

So many people wander into the parks in their own little bubble and pay little attention to what is going on. It clearly explains the fastpass system on every park guide map. Do they read it? NO!!! I have a pet peeve about people claiming to know nothing about many many things when the information is so readily available to them. It's that old saying " I don't suffer fools gladly". READ, people, READ!

Common misconceptions are that you have to pay extra for fastpass, or that you must stay onsite to be eligible.

We'll just let them believe what they want to believe ;) . Makes it easier for the rest of us. :rotfl:

It also could be something more reasonable, like they are holding fastpasses for other attractions already and are using the line and ride as a way to pass the time until their other fastpass comes into effect. Or maybe the fastpass return time is hours away and they wouldn't be able to wait until then.

I don't know. I could not believe the line for Splash Mountain last year when we were there. People must have been in that line for 90 minutes and plenty of them gave us mean looks as we went by in the FP line. I think they were mad we were getting treated "special". :confused3

Many, many people don't do any kind of research or advanced planning when they go on vacation and don't have a clue how things work. A coworker of mine went over Spring Break and when I asked her where she was staying she didn't even know the name of the resort or the type of room they had. She just knew it was the "one with the animals" (AKL). She had booked a package through Expedia and did no planning after that point.

Perhaps they were already holding fast passes for other rides? They had to use the time somehow and spending the 45 minutes in line for one ride, kills the time until they get to walk up and ride their fastpass ride.

So, they end up riding two major attractions (perhaps two of their favorites or can't miss rides) within 60-90 minutes - one with a fastpass, the other without. Still a pretty good deal.

It's really difficult, even with a really good touring plan that includes fast passes, to avoid having to stand in a long line or two.

We do use the fast pass option but will try to get on other rides while we are waiting for our fast pass time. We have even stood in line for a ride (rock and roll roller coaster) that we have a fast pass. We then get to ride it again almost immediately with our fast pass

Yes, we have had this same thing happen to us. Esp. on Space Mountain where it is dark and the people feel more comfortable saying things because you can't see them!

Also I've tried to give people waiting in the stand-by line my fast passes if I knew I didn't have time to use them and some have looked at me like I was nuts. Like, "What is that?". Bizarre.

SHHH! We're going in 8 days-the less people know, the better for us! :rolleyes1 (Just teasing, of course!)

If I get a FP for, say, Splash Mountain, and I have 40 or 45 minutes to kill, I'll do one of three things...

a) Head for a nearby ride that I know will not have a long line -- like, say, Pirates of the Caribbean.
b) Head to the shops to browse.
c) Get something to eat. (A Dole Whip sounds mighty good right about now...)

I might even catch the raft over to Tom Sawyer Island for a change of scenery or a snack.

I can't imagine spending that same amount of time standing in line for, say, Big Thunder -- sweating and watching the little hands on the clock tick by. And watching FPers go trotting to the head of the line.

But that's me.

some people go with out a clue( my parents for one) and "don't want to ask" so they don't use it ( not the first time they've been there so not sure if they would read the mapsand might not get it even then) however they are not stupid ( he was an engineer, she ran 2 entire county offices) but are 80 yrs old...i figure if they don't get fast pass so be it- how does that hurt anyone else???i'm glad they are 80 and want to go to wdw!

hmm a tad harsh for not using a fast pass???? anger issues maybe??? take a deep breath count to ten.... :teeth: :

Correct me if I am wrong, but is it true that you can only get 1 FP per hour or two? That is what I thought. Please tell me I am right, because I stood in line for several rides last summer thinking I could not get another FP for a while. :confused3

I felt the same way everytime we walked right up to the front of a line. All I kept thinking in my head was "How could you not use FP??!!" :confused3 We were able to FP everything and do everything else with no waiting. This was when the lines were as much as 90 minutes long for the major attractions. I guess maybe sometimes you just hit it right :sunny: Waiting for our FP time (which was anywhere between 60-90 minutes except Soarin which was 2 hrs and by the time we rode, the FP's were being dispursed for 6 hrs later) we would see nearby attractions or rides, do some "browsing" or get a drink/snack. Time was never wasted and we did everything!

I had the same thing happen to me the first time I used FP on Space Mountain. I actually heard people make snide comments about it!!

We have done the same thing. We also use the time waiting on another FP by standing in a line. I have never looked at the people in the FP line in an angry way. They have a FP at this time, but I already have a FP for this same ride later or another ride. But some people Just don't seem to have a clue about the whole FP idea.

When you get a fastpass, on the bottom it will indicate the time you can get your next fastpass. You can hold more than one at a time.

But contrary to this thread, one is not a loser, ignorant, etc. if you choose to wait in a line.
