Okay. I give up.

I felt really bad for this kid on our last trip. We had FPs for BTMR. The standby line was really long. We're breezing by in the FP line, and I hear this man use several harsh words and then jumps the line over into the FP line behind us. His middle school aged son yells at him that he can't do that, and the man yells back, "Oh yeh, watch me!!" Poor kid - he would have been left by himself, so he jumps over too. At that point, my DH turned around and told him that his son was right, they were going to stop him when he got to the front if he didn't have a FP. "I'd like to see them try!" Okay then, we tried. Ended up leaving him arguing with the CM while we boarded the ride.

I guess what ticked me off about him was that I think he really knew what the FPs were all about. His son obviously did, but for some reason Dad felt he didn't have to follow the rules. I just felt bad for the kid.

I agree on feeling sorry for that kid. How embarrassing for him. Makes you wonder if his dad is like that all the time or was just cranky from being there. But still no excuse.

At the great risk of being flamed I will have to say it is because the majority of the people in this country are stupid. Now, I'm serious. I am a tax accountant. I get people coming into my office every single day bringing me letters from the IRS or the State Treasury. They want me to tell them why they are getting letters. Some of them are as simple as you overpaid on your taxes and have a credit and these people are bent WAY out of shape. Why didn't they just read the darned thing? It would have saved 1) their time, 2) my time, 3) their money (I should charge double for stupid questions) and, 4) their blood pressure. We have become a society that is no longer able to think for themselves. We wait for somebody to tell us what to do and then follow like Lemmings.

Sorry folks, but that is how I see it.

I'm almost afraid I will get flamed too!! I agree with you 110%!! There are a lot of stupid people out there!

I am in the medical profesion and also hold what you might call public office. And sometimes I have to really bite my tongue.

Lots of times I'll get a fast pass for Rock n roller coaster and then head over to Tower of Terror and go in the stand-by line. By the time I'm done with TOT it's usually time to go on the Rock n roller coaster. I've never noticed dirty looks from people in the stand by line, while I was doing fast pass

There are a number of reasons people would be in the regular line. If they are already holding a FastPass and can't get a second one yet, if they want to ride the attraction twice in a row, if their kids won't pass by a particular attraction regardless of how long the line is, if they aren't all geeked up about touring 'Commando Style', if the FastPasses are gone for the day, if the FastPass return time was later than they planned on touring the park that day, or if they don't speak the language, aren't quite sure how the whole thing works, and realize Americans generally are not multi-lingual so they know darned well they aren't going to get their questions answered. There's absolutely nothing stupid about any of those reasons.

If you think about it, there ALWAYS has to be a standby line. Otherwise, the FastPass line is exactly the same as the standby line and it's designed NOT to be that way. Makes you think twice about 'stupid', doesn't it? The system is designed to maintain a standby line, folks. It is simply impossibe for every guest to hold a FastPass for every attraction during the course of their days touring. It has nothing to do with their intelligence.

During the summer months I'll get a FP for Splash and wait in the BTMRR stand-by and in the winter vice-versa.

If I can't get a FP for the ride I rather wait in Standy-by then ride IASW multiple times or walk across the park and back for TTA. :flower:

I'm a dedicated fp user, and asked a good friend of mine who refuses to use fp what her thinking process was. She told me that she doesn't like to "criss-cross the park." She's nice but also very stubborn! :flower:

While I do agree that most people just don't get the whole fast pass idea, I also think that some people may already have one fast pass in hand and are "killing time" while waiting in line to ride another attraction. Maybe? Just a thought. :confused3 :flower:

I do this myself :) Then again, I go in the off season so heat isn't an issue :)

My two cents (since I started this).

In the heat of summer, the last thing I want to do is stand in line sweating for 45-60 minutes for a 4 minute ride. Twenty minutes is my cut off. But that's me. (I did have a long wait one Sunday morning for Soarin' -- we arrived in the standby line at 9:15, and had a 30 minute wait. But that was exceptional. Two days earlier, we arrived in the same line at the same time and only had a 10 minute wait. Go figure.)

Typically, after I get a FP, I'll do one of three things:
a) Head to a nearby attraction that doesn't have a long line.
b) Browse the shops.
c) Get something to eat. (Mmmm. Dole whip...mmmm.)

I suspect items b & c are what Disney had in mind when they invented Fast Pass: in other words, spend money! :teeth:

This summer, I rarely had a lot of time to kill while doing FP. The return time was usually 45 minutes to an hour later.

We were there the beginning of August and I thought the same thing every time we got on a ride using fast pass. "why are these people waiting in 90 minute lines?" Of course we got to the parks early and got our fastpasses. we also found out at some parks that you could use your fastpass anytime after the time on it during that day. During the whole week we did not wait in a line for more than 10 minutes. We did get the "looks" from people standing in the stand by line as I honestly agree that people do not understand the whole fastpass concept.
I was amazed that we never had to wait in lines, but the fastpass system works beautifully. Just goes to show what a little preplanning can do for you to make your vacation magical. princess:

::yes:: While it might be true that some people don't know about FP or choose not to use it, that doesn't make them stupid or foolish. Our family sometimes uses FP when it suits us and other times we choose the standby line -- either to relax (we're not commando-type people) or to watch the pre-ride show or just people-watch. Unless you know those individuals in the standby line, don't make assumptions about our intelligence/knowledge. ;)

Even my 9 yr old daughter passed the comment. Why are they waiting inline when they can use FP???

Some don't know what FP is. I saw many tourists trying to get through the FP line with their park ticket thinking that is what was needed. The CM had to explain what the whole process is.....

We also gave 2 of our Space mt FP out and I thought : people are going to be soooo thankful for skipping the line that already went outside the ride and into the sun....NOPE, I offered them to one couple and they refused!!!!! The seond couple, jumped on the FP.

I know, why give Space Mt Fp's away? MY DD's were not feeling good that day and we had already used many FP'S from people in our group that were not riding.

My plan, when I get a FP is to kill time while doing other attractions in the area, often, you get to sit AND be in the AC. There always is an attraction in each land for this. COP in TLand, Tiki birds in Adventureland, Country bears in Frontierland etc....

Correct me if I am wrong, but is it true that you can only get 1 FP per hour or two? That is what I thought. Please tell me I am right, because I stood in line for several rides last summer thinking I could not get another FP for a while. :confused3

It tells you on the bottom of your FP what time you can get another one....

AND....I'm sorry...flame me all you want, but this world is FULL of stupid people....Many of them visiting WDW. You hear their comments every day while you are there. Some of you have probably even posted those comments or odd behavior in a related thread...I have no problem with people who CHOOSE to stand in line for 90 minutes, full well knowing what a FP is. I realize that some of these people may also be killing time while holding another FP. BUT....there are plenty of people who DO give nasty looks to those of us who get in the FP line, who come into WDW knowing nothing and not bothering to get any info. They get mad, frustrated, stressed...all because they haven't slowed down enough to take the time to figure out what the HECK is going on. Stupid is as stupid does.....

When my sister and I went she never "got" the idea of fastpass. We used them very sparingly, because she thought they were a waste of time. I didn't understand why she thought that.

Perhaps they were already holding fast passes for other rides? They had to use the time somehow and spending the 45 minutes in line for one ride, kills the time until they get to walk up and ride their fastpass ride.

So, they end up riding two major attractions (perhaps two of their favorites or can't miss rides) within 60-90 minutes - one with a fastpass, the other without. Still a pretty good deal.

It's really difficult, even with a really good touring plan that includes fast passes, to avoid having to stand in a long line or two.
Exactly!! Yes.. I am in the loooong line... why you ask? Because, I am already holding a FP and I have to wait 2 hours to use it! What do I do for 2 hours... go in line and wait in line for a ride. I don't want to just sit around for 2 hours and do nothing. I don't want to have another lunch. I don't want another autograph of Mickey... I have about 6 already!

And so.. that's why they are standing in a loooong line.

A good friend of mine and her husband took their small kids to Magic Kingdom for one day last summer while in Florida visiting relatives. Since we've been to Disney many times and I'm a serious overplanner, I took it upon myself to explain FastPass to her and how wonderful it is, that everyone can use it, there is no extra cost, etc. etc.

When they got back I asked how they liked FastPass, she said they weren't eligible to use FastPass because they had just purchased a one day park ticket, not a multi-day ticket! When I explained (again) that ANYONE can use it, she insisted that I was wrong. I guess you just can't convince some people no matter how hard you try......

It's the difference between planners and not planners.

I have always gotten alot of flack for planning our trips/events, etc out so well. Now mind you, I don't mean planning every minute of every day, I mean simply doing research before I do something and having a game plan in mind...ducks in a row. Some people just don't get the difference.

There are people who think planning or researching for something takes the fun out of it, or they don't want to do the work. I totally disagree. For instance, my friends and family teased me alot about planning my wedding out so well, but the day of, I and the wedding party didn't have to do a thing but get fancied up and enjoy the day ;). It was important to me so that everyone just had to, pretty much, show up dressed, ready to have fun and eat ALOT :). Everything went smoothly as clockwork, and no one had to run around panicking or figure out what was going on/how to get someplace/what to do next. I've been to weddings and in weddings where that wasn't done and *whew* it's a boiling pot.

It's the exact same way with a WDW vacation. People think "it's a vacation" and won't check anything out. Or the funny thing are the people who buy a guidebook, but don't crack it until they get there. They spend their whole time with their nose in a map trying to figure out what's going on (and how often have I seen these same people arguing? :rotfl2: )

They just don't get that one way or the other, you're going to have to do some coordinating. If you plan it in advance, that when you get there you don't have to cut into "fun time" standing around trying to figure out where to go, what's where, what to do next, where to eat AND, as mentioned, being in lines for most of the day. When something unexpected arises (rain, blisters, etc.), us DIS planners are prepared and the day continues on without much of a hitch.

Not to mention, all those people who don't research usually leave the park having missed out on a ton of things/sights because they simply didn't know they were there! (Those are the people who think they can see everything in one day ;) )

Planning ahead just diminishes stress and opens up time so you're not planning on the trip. On top of that, DH and I never felt like we were locked into anything b/c we knew what all our options were. It almost seems like planning ahead allows MORE flexibility in the long run.

But most people, they'll just never get it. They'll be eternal scramblers and havoc mongers (i.e. all my inlaws :rolleyes1 :headache: )

P.S. You can always tell the planners: they're the ones who can afford to go take a nap at the resort in the afternoon without having missed one darn thing.

I agree about the lack of planning. Lots of people admit that they don't WANT to have to study and plan ahead for a vacation - they just want to show up. A WDW vacation is a pretty hard one to just "show up" for.

The first evening we were at YC, I was talking to a guy who had just arrived - hadn't hit any parks yet. We were chatting in the hot tub, and he said that he had heard that there was something you could buy where you could go to the front of the line. Here he was, at WDW, paying a whole lot of $$ to stay at YC, and didn't know that FP was free. I told him all about it, but who knows if he used it.

Also, I won't get into judging people's intelligence, but as a lawyer, I can relate to the tax accountant's comments on page 1 of this thread. Intelligent or unitelligent, LOTS of people hate to read and attend to details. When I was a young lawyer, one of the partners told me "People pay us to read because they don't like to." It's true with taxes and legal documents AND with vacation planning. Lots of people don't want to expend more effort than they have to in any aspect of their lives.

I agree. I usually have a FP already for another ride. While waiting for the window to open up, I get in line with my family for a different ride. I'm sure all the FP people walking by are wondering why we're standing in that long line, not realizing that hello, we DO know what a FP is and YES, we have one already.

Once you get a FP, you can't get another until that window opens up. So you can choose to just sit on a bench, do some shopping, or get in line for another ride...

Just want to point out that not everybody standing in a long line is STUPID!

I understand everyone's reasons for standing in line (waiting in between FP, people not knowing about FP), but for me, I can't wait in line while waiting for my FP time. I would much rather people watch on a bench or paruse through the different shops or look for hidden Mickey's then stand in a line longer than 30 minutes. But thats just me. I have gone through a FP line and have people in front of us get stopped by the CM at the end trying to explain that it is a FP line and how they can go about getting one and they get upset about it. If people just took the time to read up on FP, they would be a lot happier on vacation. But I too am glad that some people don't know how to use them. Gets me on and off the ride before them :rolleyes1 .
