Okay, I admit it! I am a DVC snob

and proud of it! A friend and I attended the Figment & Annual pin Events last week. Since we were getting in late on Wednesday, we decided to stay at a value (Pop Century) before checking into a 1BR at BWV. Never again and this is why:

. Size does matter and I swear the bathtub/toilet area is smaller than in a DVC studio.
. No ceiling fan
. No sleep button on the remote (I like to fall asleep with the TV on).
. Bed was wayyy too soft
. Housekeeping Issue – As I’m walking around I remark to my friend that my sock kept sticking to the floor by the nightstand. There was a hard to see sticky spot (because carpeting was dark). So I took a piece of paper and wrote “sticky spot” and put it on the floor. Twofold reason – it kept our socks from sticking and it alerted the housekeeping staff.
. People can talk all they want about the long walk to the rooms at BWV (and since I had Room #2135 beginning the next day I know of what I speak) BUT give me a long walk in an air conditioned/heated hallway any day. The hot, steamy walk to our Pop Century room was no fun.

I know there are Pop Century fans. If you like the rooms, great! I don’t. I was supposed to stay there for one night in December (before we move to BWV) but will be canceling. There will be two friends traveling with me and all I can think is that we will kill each other before our vacation begins. I’m thinking off property.

Except for it being very hot and steamy, we had a great time and we did make another observation. There have been posts on the generalizing of menus. Add drink menus to the list. You can now get a Kungaloosh at Cape May. One of my favorite drinks is the roller coaster at the BW pool. It is no longer on the menu. They have the same pina colada that they serve at Cape May. This is sooooooooooo wrong! The only place a Kungaloosh should be served is at the Adventurers Club. Bring back my Roller Coaster! If I wanted a plain old pina colada (although it’s called something like Pina Colava at both places), I’d go off property or stay home.

Room at BWV was perfect. No food left, no hair in the bathroom, no mildew (okay, maybe a bit but it wasn’t enough for me to bother with). People were friendly and one of the desk clerks made my day. I had shipped my pins down (all 30 lbs worth). When I checked in, Lolitha told me the package was down at Screen Door. I said I’d probably open the package down there since it was a rolling backpack and bring it up that way (no way could I carry a 30 lb package). Well, lo and behold, when we finally got into our room later that day, my package was sitting on the kitchen table. Letter is going to Disney about her and some other CMs who definitely spread the magic. :thumbsup2

One final thought – you know you’ve been to Disney too much and have bought wayyy too much when Helen, the shipping clerk, at BW’s convention center, knows you and brings out the baby pictures to show how much her daughter has grown.

Well, let's get all us DVC snobs together!!!! I guess I'm one too...
We went to WDW last year with my whole family and rented out two rooms at POP C. Even though I had a good time there, my Dh and I agreed that it would be the very last time in a Value for us. We were used to the deluxes but the price for my whole family was huge!!! Almost $9,000 for the 5 adults and 1 child to stay at the AKL (it's our favorite resort, before DVC) in a 1 BR suite!!! AND THAT'S FOR ONE TRIP!!! So, you see why we just HAD to buy into the DVC.... And I guess agreeing about the Values, and even the moderates, that would make me a Deluxe/DVC snob... :teeth:

we stayed there one night this past august before one week at bwv, and I could not wait to get out of there. it was clean, but croweded due to the free dining, could not find a towel at the pool after life guards left, room way to small. The food court was enought to give me a headache, I loooove my dvc. You could also hear the toilet flushing all around and that is not all throught the bathroom walls. :rotfl:

We just stayed at POP for Labor Day weekend. Didn't want to waste the weekend points. Guess we've just been too spoiled.

We really did feel cramped. Missed my balconies. Couldn't stand the sinks being in the bedroom. And the beds are so small (not uncomfortable though).
Heard the kids in the pool until late into the night, etc, etc etc.

Back to OKW with us!!!

I'm joining that club too! My last visit to WDW before DVC was at Pop. Tiny rooms, long HOT walk from the bus, super crowded..everything you mentioned. Then, this June after I bought DVC we stayed at a 2BR at OKW. Wow! What a difference!!!
We were sitting out on the deck having coffee one morning and DF said- "I wonder what the poor folks are doing this fine morning?" complete with the requisite Southern accent. Too funny.

Guilty! here too!

We had friends that stayed at POP and when we went into their room I was shocked at how small it was!(we have stayed there many moons ago!)

 my DVC

every time I crawl up on my pedestal, I get knocked off...

so I won't join the DVC snob society;)

must admit though, it's a tad depressing ( & quite unfair to compare) to spend the weekends in the values after 5 days in the villas (even the studios we book, are much nicer as to overall atmosphere).

So how would you say the (tiny) Pop rooms compared to a studio? DH and I are "going home" for the 1st time in March and are "slummin' it" in a studio. :rotfl: Just wondering if we'll be cramped. It's me, DH and DS 1 1/2.

Thanks!

We're either not DVC snobs or Just plane cheap :rotfl2:

We used all our points and don't want to do the borrowing thing so for our long weekends (Oct trip ) we got a AP discount so we're set and can't wait.

Yes the Firs trip home ( SSR ) in a 2bdrm was nice and our Dec trip in a studio will be great as well.

But if it gets me to the World then I will take POP anyday.

Thats why we just spend the points. You are really a DVC snob, when you spend weekend points in Prime season :teeth:

I figure as much as the whole trip cost, I dont want to spend 1 day wishing I was somewhere else. We will borrow or whatever, I just dont want to move!
And we really enjoyed PoP last year after our cruise (3days) but those beds were small, Dh and I had to split up and share with the boys. The room was small, and It took me a day to get over it after I drug my luggage on the Pop MGM bus with full intention of catching the boat to BWV to checkin :lmao:(which I later found out was clearly against WDW policy)

We didnt swim there or stick around much. I found myself wanting to stay gone, where at DVC, we dont want to go anywhere.

Im still thankful WDW offers a full range of resorts, but as long as I have a choice and points current or borrowed, I will choose DVC.

WHAT!!!!!!???? I am leaving in 2 weeks for the BWV's and have been looking forward to my new tradition of Roller Coaster Meltdowns!!!

DRATS!

This thread is NOT helping me in the least,

as I sit here thinking about next week at ASMu. :sad2:

Hopefully that free food will calm me down....make the place seem better! :sunny:

hey I love Pop Century.

expect ASMu to be a value not a deluxe, moderate or DVC resorts - and you should be fine.

as long as I can get Pop for under $100 - I will LOVE IT!

Sadly, we have stayed at ASMu before. THAT'S what I am dreading :rotfl2: .

Maybe it has something to do with Magical Express, but now we are less likely to have a car for the whole trip. Without a car, I don't want to move, and so we've given up our Pop ressie for the entire 5 night stay in a BWV studio in December, and this includes both weekend nights. These types of decisions are what's making me think about doing another add on. I need to keep tabs on how much money we're saving by not renting a car for the entire trips. :teeth:

It's nothing against Pop and the All stars. We've gotten towel animals there. We've had some great times. But now, I feel claustrophobic there, inside the rooms. It could be I miss the balcony. LIFERBABE said it for me, "not wanting to spend a day wishing I were someplace else."

Bobbi :)

Our family of 5 (Myself, DH, DS2, DD14, DS16) just stayed at Pop for 8 nights in one room and had a great time. Yes, it is not BWV or OKW or even close. But it was cheap and the food was free....what more does anyone need?

Many are and few will admit it. I think most of us are to one degree or another. Some will dance around the issue but the truth is we have good taste and want great things.

DVC Snob here.

But it gets worse. I mentioned to my wife about maybe a quick trip to WDW and possibly staying in a studio in lieu of a 1 BDR (me, her, and my 1 year old) and if looks could kill I would be a deadman.

But there are a few times when we are not snobs and go back a visit Dixe Landings for a day or 2.

I am absolutely a snob, in fact I've converted every one in my family. It's getting hard for us to go back to a regular hotel room let alone the value resorts. I'm glad Disney offers a variety of accommodations (after all variety is the spice of life) but for this gal, I can't go back.
