We are going back to Disney in April. My mother can sew anything with a pattern so I want her to sew DD a pirate "dress" to wear after she goes to the "Pirate's league". My problem: I want it to be kind of punky and piratey at the same time. I want her to have a "corset" type top to go over a blouse. Where can I find a pattern for this? Or can someone give us suggestions as to how to construct such a garment? I don't want an actual corset of course!!! (I don't want to get flamed for suggesting such a thing!!) Just something resembling it that laces up the front. Can you guys give me any help?:confused3

Got to www.youcanmakethis.com. They have a ton of patterns - including a super cute "corset" top. DD was a pirate 2 years ago - here's her costume using YCMT patterns

PERFECT!!!!!:cool1: I was thinking of the skirt being a "twirl type" made of "that sheer stuff":lmao: I think it some kind of organza. What do you think?

If you post on the Disboutiquers thread asking to see some pictures I'm sure you'll get quite a few ideas ;) We love sharing pictures.

I can't take the credit b/c I didn't make most of DD's, but it doesn't look like it would be that hard to make. The corset is basically just a rectangle of a thicker black fabric. The lady who made it put grommets down the front and ribbons tie it together. She also attached two ruffles and coins at the bottom, and they go over a black tutu. (They're easy to make, too). I did make the white peasant shirt from a gauze-type material and handpainted shoes with skulls and matching ribbons for laces. :) I ordered the hat on eBay.

I wish I had better pictures, but I think you can get the idea. You might check out patterns like Simplicity, Butterick, and McCalls...they always have pirate costume patterns and you might be able to mix and match to get the look you want.
