Ok to order vegetarian if not a vegetarian?

I am curious as to whether or not this would be acceptable. I have seen pictures of the vegetarian dish at Ohana and it looks very good...much better to me than the meat skewers and I do not care for wings either, however, I am not a vegetarian. Is it wrong to make a request for a vegetarian dish? I truly have no idea if this is acceptable or if it's too much of an inconvenience for the wait staff. Please share you thoughts with me. I honestly think I would request it if people think it's okay to do, but I would eat some of the other sides and probably even pick at the meat if you guys think it's unethical.

Thanks!

:rotfl: You're kidding, right? Order whatever it is you'd like to have. Why would that be unethical? You don't have to "prove" your vegetarian. If that's what you prefer, then go for it.

No, I'm sorry, WDW only makes a certain amount of vegetarian meals, like an airplane, and if you don't...wait, I can't even type this with a straight face...

OP - OF COURSE YOU CAN ORDER THE VEGETARIAN MEALS!!!!!!!! And I think it is very sweet and dear of you to be concerned that it would somehow be wrong. We need more people like you, instead of the many thousands we seem to have that say, "I know it's wrong, but I want it so it's OK just this once!!!"

Have a great trip and as many great veggie meals as you want!!!!

Thank you guys! I feel much better now. I think I will note on our ressie that we would like one vegetarian meal for our party. I was just afraid that the waiter would ask me "what kind" of vegetarian I am when explaining the menu(I know different vegetarians are more and less strict about what they do/do not eat) and when I responded that I wasn't, I'd get weird looks?? I guess saying unethical may have been a bit harsh, but I still feel a little bad requesting something special. Thanks for making me feel better about it though! It really does look enjoyable!

Have a great trip and enjoy your meals.

Keep in mind that even if you note the vegetarian request on your dining reservations you should still let the wait staff know when you arrive at the restaurant.

 No way! The vegetarian police will come get you! ;)

Just kidding! A lot of my vegetarian food looks good to the meat-eaters I know. :p The last time I flew to Europe I got a vegetarian meal; it was brought out before the regular meal orders were taken. It was pretty decent, and apparently the lady next to me thought it looked good to her. When the flight attendant came to take her order, she said that she wanted what I was having, and the flight attendant had to explain it was a veggie meal and there aren't any left.

If they ask you what kind of vegetarian when you call to make the note on your ADR, just say you don't eat meat or fish or seafood and you want that tofu noodle bowl thing. From the pics I've seen of it, I think it's vegan (no eggs or dairy as well as meat-free), but I'm not 100% positive. When you get to the restaurant, you do want to remind them that you want it; if you tell the waiter you're vegetarian, though, he or she might look at you funny if you eat some meat, but don't worry about it.

I know people who aren't vegetarians but don't really care for meat (or can take it or leave it)...just tell them you're not fully veg. but that you don't really care for meat...at Ohana, it sounds like that would be pretty true.

I think it's great that you're requesting it---increasing the demand for vegetarian meals at Disney sends them a message we like (I think I can say that on behalf of all the vegetarians on the board? We want them to know we like good meals!).

I know this is an old thread---found it searching for vegetarian pics (still trying to figure out if we should keep Coral Reef now that the strudel is gone...*sigh*)

OK, time to confess my sin here-I have ordered the vegetarian plate at Tangerine Cafe and I'm not vegetarian. And DM ordered a vegetarian meal at CRT, and she also is not vegetarian. Whew, snuck that one by the veggie police!

that's it Simba's Mom, I'm coming to get you! no more gelato reports from BCV for you ;)
