I just realized a lot of things I need to bring and my first DVC trip isn't until 10/09.

Do I need to find silverware, plates and cups? Should I be renting a OL? Since it's just DH & I, I really didn't think about all of this stuff.

Please don't panic. There are absolutely no "have to's" (aside from paying for it) associated with your DVC membership. You should do what you want to do and bring what you want to bring.

You will not need plates/cups/silverware. Those things are provided. Units with a full kitchen also have cooking utensils, pots/pans, etc. You really don't need to bring anything, but many DVCers like to bring certain things, depending on how they vacation. Again, you should only feel compelled to bring what you want to bring.

As for the Owner's Locker, not everyone gets them. We do not as we do not need one. We almost always drive and made up our own bin of vacation items that gets tossed in the car when we pack up. Personally, I find them far too expensive but many swear by them so it's really up to you.

WE bring (that is different from a 'regular' hotel trip)

Coffee filters, salt and pepper, sugar, ground coffee, cereal, shampoo, conditioner, peanut butter, jam, laundry detergent

We buy milk, half and half, eggs, orange juice, 2 liters of Coke and a bottle of booze - usually just down at the little grocery (BWV - Screen Door).

I suppose I could throw shampoo, salt and pepper, coffee filters, sunscreen, etc - plus some of our 'only at WDW' stuff (extra hats, rain ponchos) into an owners locker, but we've never bothered.

Will you be staying in a studio or a 1 br or larger place?

I feel a bit better now. We'll probably only be able to do a studio at BLT the first year. The only thing I seriously need would be coffee.

Then you will need to bring whatever coffee you enjoy, plus coffee filters.

Since the studios have only paper plates and bowls, plastic silverware, real mugs, and glassware, I often bring cheap plastic containers in case I need to microwave something. I also like ziplocks in many sizes to help store leftovers.

HTH

FWIW, there are walmarts, publx, Costcos (in case you REALY like mayo). So even if you forgot something, like I do, its no bg deal.

Except for those of us who fly in, use Magical Express and have no car. ;)

We do studios and use ME... I typically pack non-perishable breakfast & snack items to bring with us bcuz I know they're cheaper to bring. You can do a good bit with a microwave and toaster. Now that there are so many luggage restrictions / charges with the airlines my list may change. However, small lightweight items that I've brought in the past would be crackers (those vending machine kind that are like cheese or peanut butter), boxes of Honey Buns, Pop Tarts, Doughnuts, cereal in those little self containers, packs of oatmeal to microwave, pre-sliced bagels and coffee in filter packs. I also usually stock up on sugar packets beforehand (for my coffee) and finally the ever important bottle of Captain Morgan.:rolleyes1 We can buy water, milk, cream cheese & butter on site. We usually eat lunch & dinner out...
